Hotel Massena, Nice

The room is comfortable and made for good sleeping: quiet, dark, with good AC, which was important given the warm temperatures and high humidity in late July. The King Deluxe Room is spacious and well appointed with a king bed, bureau, desk, mini-fridge, table and chairs. Lots of storage for our clothes. More spacious than we expected; didn't feel crowded at all. Staff was friendly and helpful; they easily extended our stay without any trouble and we got to stay in the same room, which was super convenient. Can't beat the location within easy walking distance of the Promenade, Rue Massina, Place Massina, luxury shopping, good restaurants, and the Old Town. Located in a nice, safe neighborhood that was very easy to navigate as a foreign tourist. Most people spoke English so don't worry if you're French is not great, but do try to speak French if you can. The locals will appreciate it and it shows you respect their culture and language. You just might get some free extras: we got some free drinks at some bars and restaurants because we tried our best to speak what French we knew. Always greet staff with "Bonjour" or "Bonsoir," ask them for things with "S'il vous plâit," thank them with "Merci," and say goodbye with "Au revoir." It's just good manners and you'll get better service!

The shower was difficult and confusing to operate. Could have been stocked with more than one roll of toilet paper; we had to ask the front desk for more after one night. Toilet area is very small. Wifi was spotty, which made working remotely somewhat difficult.

Our room was very comfortable and in a very quiet part of the hotel as we requested. The french window opened to rooftops – wonderful to get the fresh air. The room was huge and we had two wardrobes, so lots of space to store for our stay. The hotel location is excellent. Very easy to navigate and find your way around. It feels like a very safe place and we soon found our favourite bars. The hotel staff were absolutely wonderful. So helpful.

The bar facilities would ideally be extended, but as there are so many great bars in the area, this was not a problem at all.

the night shift receptionist called Lo was careless and rude for my requests , he seemed that he only wanted to pass his shift without giving any service.

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Old Nice, making it an excellent base for exploring the area. We stayed in room 525, which was away from the street and generally quiet, though we occasionally heard footsteps from the room above late at night. Additionally, I highly recommend visiting Villefranche, a nearby town with a beautiful sandy beach. If you visit the beach in Nice, make sure to take beach shoes for the stones.

We had breakfast at the hotel, but at EUR 20 per person, we were disappointed by the fully self-service setup, including the drinks. It would have been nice to have some freshly baked pastries available. As a side note, we visited a nearby place called 'La Femme Du Boulangerie' for breakfast, and it was absolutely delightful – the hotel could take some inspiration from them.

Very friendly helpful staff and it was easy to walk to the old town of Nice and other places.

My room was very small. You can get larger rooms but thay are much more expensive.

Our room was very spacious, bed was very comfortable and they set it up beautifully for us. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, they are also helpful when giving advice on where to visit.

Really friendly staff. Great location within easy walking distance of beautiful / popular parts of Nice. Lovely decor. Wide range of options for breakfast - unfortunately they ran out quite quickly & didn't fully restock so it became limited quickly. Mixture of hot and cold breakfast options - same through out the stay. Felt like a 3 star basic hotel with really lovely staff. The location was the highlight. We had a triple room. King size bed was amazing. Room 22 sqm which is spacious. Bathroom & WC was separated. Plenty of toiletries, towels in excellent conditions. Quiet air conditioner.

Excellent location central to shops, restaurants, places of interest and the beach. Staff were friendly and helpful and appeared to genuinely enjoy working at the hotel. There was lots of choice for breakfast and it was kept fresh throughout the morning.

The wifi was difficult to access at times but overall not too bad. The room was small which is to be expected for a city hotel but the bathroom was very small with a tiny shower that was temperamental. I would have expected slightly more for the price paid.

Our room was really fashioned out of what must have been store cupboards originally. Quirky but looked into very very tatty roofs. Therefore very little light.

Location. Historic building. Friendly competent staff.

Bathrooms. Separate tiny rooms for toilets. No grab bars in tubs or showers. Very unsafe. High tubs difficult to enter especially with narrow opening due to unmovable glass partition. It would take a very small investment to install grab bars everywhere. This would be both kind and wise.

Small size of allegedly deluxe room with notable failure in fittings from minute bedside table, lack of drawers in room and bathroom. Designed by a man with appearance as opposed to function? Sadly,we had an unrequested room change from our booking- terrace for balcony with attendant loss of space highlighted by poor weather.
