Hotel Pod 39, New York

Everything is very comfortable! The beds are good, there are many commodities, and the overall vibe of the hotel is great! The AC worked well. Housekeeping was punctual and very polite. You don't go to New York to stay inside your hotel room, so we didn't mind it being tiny.

The bathroom was a mess. I think they gave a room for people with disabilities where there was no division between the shower and toilet. So the water was all over the place. I had asked for room service and the lady took my towel to clean the floor. I could have done that myself. I did not see any cleaning supplies.

It’s one of the few hotels in manhattan which you’ll get for a decent price. The rooms are small, so ideal for solo travelers, not so much two people. Great location.

Some rooms are hit or miss when it comes to having a proper wardrobe space with hangers. But the staff were nice enough to let me change to a better layout room. It’s a bit outdated but for New York, it will do.

I stay at the Pod hotels frequently and I find them to be exceptionally clean, comfortable, and a great value. The rooms are well designed with everything I need and nothing that I do not.

The fact that we couldn't open the window (couldn't reach because of the shutters). And the aircon was beastly loud. Awful.

Great location, only 2 blocks to grand central station. It was perfect to get to all the sights. The room was small but perfect when you are gone all day and only really using it for sleeping. Beds and towels changed daily. Free tea/coffee in the morning was included which was lovely.

The toilet doors are only sliding doors so doesn’t allow for a huge amount of privacy. Didn’t matter to us as we were travelling as a family but just to note if you were travelling with someone you didn’t know very well.

Its location perfect near my daughters and Grand Central Station. I love the bar/cafe and free coffee. My daughters played pool and we meet there and play games. Miss the ping pong table!

The room was very clean, it's designed to be very efficient and it is. I like that there were enough sleeping pillows. The heat/cooling system was too loud which made it hard to sleep through the night. The staff at the desk was okay.

The hotel staff was very welcoming and friendly both at check in and check out. I was upgraded to a queen room upon arrival, which I greatly appreciated. The hotel is located right in the heart of Murray Hill and is close to public transport. The room was tiny, just barely bigger then the bed, and there was not much space for luggage, but good enough for one person. I will say, the bed was VERY comfortable! The stay was definitely worth the money for a short solo stay!

The hotel is centrally located with super convenient access to restaurants, cafes, tourist attractions, and public transportation. You can easily walk from the hotel to most places in Manhattan. The staff are friendly and there is free coffee in the morning. The bed is comfortable. The rooms are designed practically, you can store your things away and organize yourself.

The rooms are very small, which isn't surprising since the size is clearly stated. But it's almost difficult to open your suitcase in the room if you have a slightly bigger suitcase. I stayed alone, which was manageable, but it might be challenging for couples/families. The walls are thin, so I could hear the other guests at night.

Free coffee was delicious and a nice perk. Free poncho’s and a ride to the airport for a good price.

Roof top bar closed at 10:00, another hour or two would have been better.

The only thing that bothered me during our seven day stay is the heat/cold system which is really noisy and personally kept me awake the first nights, so we turned it off. Individually every room can turn it off - however you can still hear the neighbouring room's working...

The location of this hotel is excellent. The room we stayed in was small, but the queen bed was comfortable and had enough space for two people. Just keep in mind there isn’t much privacy due to the compact layout, so it’s really best suited for sleeping and getting ready for the day. Despite the size, I loved our stay. It was quiet, and I slept very well. Housekeeping is available daily—you just need to hang the sign on your door if you want them to clean your room. The staff was great, and there’s complimentary coffee and tea available daily. While the room doesn’t come with a lot of extras, the essentials are covered. Overall, this was one of the most affordable options I found in a safe, central location in Manhattan. It’s not exactly cheap (nothing really is in NYC), but it definitely does the job, especially if you’re out exploring all day.

The only issue I’ve had so far is with the deposit. At check-in, they assured me that it would be refunded after the stay, but it’s still showing as pending on my bank account—even though it’s been over a month since I checked out. I’d really appreciate some clarity on when it will be fully refunded.

One pressure shower, noisy when doors are opened and closed and only 3 elevators to service the building... sometimes can be waiting for 5mins for an elevator.

Room was bigger than I anticipated and facilities were good. Check in and check out was easy. Location was great, only 10 mins from Grand Central. Would definitely stay here again!

Even though it was on manhattan near to Times Square, grand central etc. it still felt that little bit out of the way and a long walk back.

The hotel is in mid-town, so the location is great for reaching different parts of Manhattan. It's close to a lot of shopping and food places. The staff helped sort out a check-in issue I had with one of the initial rooms. Overall a good place, considering how expensive New York can be.

Some of the room configurations, hence the initial change I had to make. I wish they provided a mini fridge for people staying more than 3 nights. That would help with having cold drinks or storing food that you don't finish.

It was clean and the staff was very nice. The rooms are small, but you know that before coming! You can manage. There was a noise in my room and the staff kindly and quickly offered me a new room. Free coffee in the morning is nice too!

The room was spotless, and housekeeping came every day in the morning. But bring extra coat hangers if you're coming for meetings. And there's no in-room iron/ironing board; you have to ask reception. The adjoining Italian Restaurant, Arthur and Son's, serves up some great food with generous serves. Pod 39 is a short walk to all the places I needed to get to; from the UN HQ to Wagamama. It's right next door to a dry- cleaners/laundry and across E 39th St from Venice Coffee, a popular 24hr sandwich and coffee place.

My room 824 was a bit of a squeeze, and I wouldn't recommend it for a couple as space is very limited. No laundry service, so be prepared to hand wash in your small sink, or spend $15 USD per pound for same day wash and dry next door. Even as a solo traveller, I managed to stub my toe and scrape my knee on the edges of the bed, and I'm not clumsy. I'd stay there again, but in a bigger room, with a bigger shower.

Pod 39 is (as with Pod 51) basic - but it is exceptional basic! The staff are switched on, welcoming, and ready to help with any issues - eg directions, maps, taxis, luggage storage, a knife to cut apples (it was a plastic knife but did the job). The location is terrific - I was attending a UN conference - the UN is just a walk down the street, other venues for the event were close (apart from the Salvation Army Building). There's a delicatessen across the street - and if a person favours meat they have all sorts of meat-based bagels that look wonderful (I am vegetarian so am not able to vouch for taste). Pod 39 is in a great location for Grand Central, too - so an easy ride on the airtrain to Long Island Railroad to take the train in to Grand Central. Bathroom excellent - shower easy to work (which is a bonus as so many hotels have complicated shower systems, or ones that are a mystery until the penny drops).

Lighting system in the room - I like the light on all night so that I can read all night - and it just took a bit of working out to realise that as the whole system works on one system - that is, all lights are on, or all lights (even bedside light) are off - but here's the tip - dim the light in the bathroom and the main overhead light - and the bedside light remains on ... so those who are readers in bed with be a-okay! (So this is not really a 'didn't like' - just a note that sometimes systems are not straightforward.)
