The location was perfect, the beach is right around the corner. I loved that breakfast was provided. The room was spacious and clean :)

Water pressure in one of the female bathrooms was quite weak, but it wasn't even that bad.

We stayed in the queen private room, I had a queen bed with bunk beds and a private bathroom. It was a comfortable bed, I slept well. The supplied toiletries were lovely too. The included breakfast had a great selection, we felt satisfied each morning. The location is fantastic, very close to everything you want. The pier is a very short walk, lots of restaurants and shops and even a supermarket. Public transport was also convenient, close to the big blue bus which will get you to and from LAX/LA for $1.25.... it takes about an hour, really great! They also have activities like movie nights and trivia, there is a sign to say what's on and when. I've already recommended this place to a few friends travelling to the USA as we really enjoyed our stay.

A little gem ! I checked the reviews before, and it was pretty positive, but I didnt expect that ! It’s the best Hostel I tried in my life! Perfect location, it’s very clean and super confortable ! The staff is very kind and helful, at any time. They also get me some bar names and good addresses, thank you so much. I took a car for the last 2 days and it was so easy to park, there are two parking, one just literally in front of the hostel and an other cheaper, 10min by walk, very easy to commute ! I will come back FOR SURE !

Wish to have a little extra for the breakfast, like eggs or some vegetables, but for a free breakfast it’s already very good ! Also, the schedule for BK is 7:30 to 9:30, I think they could extend it to 10:00am at least :)

Location, staff, acitivities, rooms, cleanliness, kitchen and common area size are fantastic. Amenities in the kitchen. Fantastic opprtunities to meet people.

A few homeless people always sitting in front of adjacent building but caused no harm to me or anybody while I was there.

Breakfast was ok, coffee was acid and sometimes the person at reception asked me to show my card key on my return to the hostel. I even opened the front door with the card key the person at reception asked me to show her my card key.

A good Americaine breakfast was offered. I really liked the huge professional kitchen where you can make your own dishes and smoothies. The library is a nice place where one can work and have a quiet time. Very cosy and wonderful hostel design. I appreciate the fact that after check out one may stay in the lobby and use the kitchen. Very comfortable when you have a flight in the evening as in my case.

Find it hard to sleep as the beds were moving with a simple roommates movements. I accidently checked booking again for the night price and found that it was lowered by 10$ after getting the 48h confirmation of my booking.

Front desk clerk was so rude I’m handicapped he wouldn’t even help me with writing my name on a luggage tag to store my bag for $5 !

I had a great stay at HI Los Angeles Santa Monica Hostel. The location is perfect—just a short walk to the beach, shops, and public transport, which made exploring the city very easy. The breakfast was a nice start to the day, with good options and a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always available for questions or advice. The overall vibe of the hostel was clean, safe, and welcoming. I really enjoyed my time here and would happily stay again!

Great location. Friendly staff and amenities are clean. Complimentary breakfast available and they provide you with beach supplies if needed, laundry area etc. Activities throughout the week offered that make it easier to meet new people. I recommend this HI hostel without a doubt.

Limited choice for breakfast (always the same thing). Limited water pressure (due to water shortage/surveillance I guess).

4 bed dorm was very clean, also public areas. Toilets are kind of oldschool, but still ok! One of staff members was super weird, talkig with big voice, i guess he has taken something else (what is not legal). Super weird behaviour!

It’s very nice hostel. The kitchen, comun area, pool, it’s full ok.

I don’t like the beds in the room. They don't have curtains which can be a little uncomfortable for the guest.

My experience at HI USA Hostel Los Angeles was simply amazing. From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect — just 300 meters from the iconic Santa Monica Pier and very well connected to metro lines and public transportation, making it super easy to get around the city. The spaces are modern, spacious, always clean, and the overall vibe is incredibly welcoming. The staff were kind, helpful, and created a warm, friendly atmosphere. I met people from all over the world and loved the energy of the place. The included breakfast is another big plus: generous, varied, and well organized. It was without a doubt the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. An experience I recommend 10000%. I’ll definitely be back!

Great location—close to the metro and in downtown Santa Monica. The hostel does an excellent job facilitating community in weekly events it hosts. Overall clean. The complimentary breakfast was much appreciated!

The metal lattice bed frame bunks sag a bit in the middle.

I loved the location of the hostel. It is a great option for a short and budget friendly stay, it has everything you need. The rooms are clean, the people are friendly and helpful, it also includes breakfast and has nice shared areas.

I booked a long stay and when I arrived they said I couldn’t they have a policy of no more than 2 weeks in a CALENDAR YEAR claiming that it’s because they want everyone to have the opportunity to travel, yet, there is always availability and there were 2 empty beds in my dorm during my entire stay. It basically ruined my stay cause I spent the entire time trying to find where to go and worrying about it. This policy should be reviewed as it doesn’t make sense. It should also be said on huge bold black letters or through an image or block the booking so people don’t have this issue in the future. I love the hostel. It was my 3rd time, but I was unable to enjoy my stay. Also there was a big group of rugby players making a mess at night. Screaming. Getting drunk. The fire alarm was even pulled at 1 am. I feel there should be more policies about these type of big - teenage- groups rather than a solo traveler who wants to stay for more than 2 weeks a year.

It was too expensive for the services offered. We even had to remove the sheets from the bed when checking out. I even had to pay for them to storage my backpack for a couple of hours.

Some guests in the hostel - including my room - were very weird. If you’re a young traveller expecting to meet other young backpackers - forget about it.

An over-the-top hostel with very clean and comfy dorms, lots of free breakfast options, free daily activities, just a few steps from Santa Monica Pier. You can get here from LAX airport by Big Blue Bus.

I honestly feel like I made the best choice. The hostel and bathrooms are clean, the dining room is big, there’s a pool table and a fireplace with couches around it — super cozy vibe. The room I stayed in was nice and had air conditioning, two big windows, and a comfy bed. I guess I was lucky to have really nice and respectful roommates too. The front desk staff were great. There’s even an ATM in the lobby. The location is perfect — close to shops and restaurants. I didn’t use public transport, but I saw there’s a bus stop and metro station nearby. My experience was 10/10. They also sell snacks and drinks at the reception. The breakfast they serve has good options — for me, it was really good.

The hostel was absolutely fine. Nice breakfast, clean rooms, perfect shower, comfy beds. It is a huge hostel with many many rooms, and somehow ppl here communicate less with each other than in smaller, more intimate settings. But overall its all fine with it.
