Our most memorable part of our stay at the Downtown Proper was the service and hospitality. They exceeded our expectations. The staff were all very friendly, professional and hospitable. In addition, it was the little details that really mattered. All the bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, there were complimentary fresh green and red juices in the fitness area and eucalyptus cooling towels, and the decor on the main level really embodied the 'so cal' modern vibe. Rooms were on the smaller side, but very comfortable. Bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, lighting was warm and indirect, the bed was comfortable and it was nice to be able to open the window for some fresh LA air. The black out blinds were also really useful. Location was fantastic to use as a base to explore downtown LA. Minutes to the central food market, surrounded by Art Deco architecture and a quick drive to the Arts district.
The first room we were assigned had the bed pushed up right against the wall. The hotel was very responsive in finding us an alternate room.

Lovely Hotel would stay again
The staff was very professional and helpful. The rooms were large for a retrofitted building in DTLA and the Decore was very nice. When i had problem it was fixed without any issue.
There could have been more storage space for clothes, maybe some kid of draw system or bins. The location was perfect for my needs and the immediate area felt safe.

On the 26th April 2023, made 3 reservations via BOOKING (paid in full) 2 normal rooms and 1 superior
On the 26th April 2023, made 3 reservations via BOOKING (paid in full) 2 normal rooms and 1 superior, all three got the same type of room maybe I should add that to the refund!! Once they arrived at the Hotel (14th may for 6 nights) they were told that BOOKING had not honoured the reservations by giving them a credit card that had be declined. Instead of contacting BOOKING they activated their protocol, and the Pax were forced to give a personal credit card. One would assume that having 3 guests in the same situation the Hotel would contact BOOKING the next available chance to solve the issue between them, but no, the hotel have randomly placed charges on the credit card during their 6 day stay that don’t correspond to the invoices given on their exit. There is more than 4.000$ charged to the card no concept or additional invoice plus the famous 34.85$ We paid over 10.000$ to Booking but on their exit they had and extra have charged 4295.85$ extra on the 20th of May. To be fair I did call the Hotel after their first night. I didn’t appreciate that the first 3 times the phone was hung up on me but did manage to talk to Miss Amber. Who told me what the situation with BOOKING was, helpful to the point that she did refund the guest that paid 4.265.85$ (although he had proof the room was paid for in full) but then she went on to charge the Guest Amenity Fee// Resort fee 34.86 US dollars that again is included in the BOOKING Reservation and prepaid. Found it in poor form that the hotel, neither apologized to him and weren’t even forthcoming with a cocktail for this poor guy, think that shouts loud and clear about their inhouse polices (without mentioning other appreciations) but charged 27US dollars for a glass of water out of the jug by the bed!! I’m currently waiting BOOKING and The DTLA HOTEL for them to be civil to each other and reimburse the 4.295,85$ we are owed.

The staff was very friendly and the decor of the hotel very cool and stylish. Comfortable beds, nice views and a very trendy rooftop with a fireplace. Highly recommended for visiting downtown.

Blinds didn't cover whole window so the light came in which is very challenging when you are jetlagged Also windows not very sound proof could hear people talking on the street Room service not very good at all and very expensive for what it was and the whole process of ordering was difficult

Excellent, premium hotel with real character and exceptional food and service.
Rooftop bar was excellent. Great food. Breakfast excellent. Rooms nicely designed. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Concierge and staff all extremely helpful. A very well run hotel, by people who are clearly proud of their hotel.

You will feel welcomed when staying here.
The staff was exceptionally welcoming. They were the main reason why it was an excellent stay. Bar tenders on the roof top made excellent drinks. Bed was extremely comfy.

Beautiful property in a great part of LA. Cozy rooms, great access to restaurants. Very relaxing and peaceful stay!
Boyfriend said the bed wasn’t as supportive as he’s like but I’d didn’t feel that way.

The place to stay in Downtown LA
Great location if you want to be or have to be downtown. Great rooftop, bar and restaurant.

it’s cool but not worth the price
The nice decor, friendly front staff.
The room is smaller than I thought, no coffee maker in the room, the roof top is too small , no cafeteria or reception area meaning place to hang out. And when I went to the roof top to check out, the staff was not nice and welcoming. The gym was ok. It’s a cool place but considering everything I don’t think it’s worth the price.

from the moment you walk through the door the staff make you feel so welcome. Shout out to Damien for exceptional service. Great room , view comfy bed, great bathroom. Very useful for have good sized table to work on. Brilliant bar staff on rooftop bar. Again extremely welcoming. The location is good and central in Downtown. the birthday wine a cake was very much appreciated.
our restaurant experiences were disappointing. The lobby restaurant looks great, although empty. I feel we were tricked in to buying a started as the main course washing to take a long time to prepare and come to us. It did not and the peri-peri chicken was not only enough for 3 people but it was just late lumps of chicken surrounds by soggy chips. My duck as over large and really boring, with a few soggy greens underneath. I can't remember what the wrap was at the rooftop restaurant but I remember it there was far too much wrap for what was inside. The restaurant was the first one in which neither my wife or myself could find a desert we would want to eat. The pool is an asset. far too small and no shade. As a result the pool surround had tiles so hot it burnt your foot. There was not one sunshade on the whole floor. we had to retreat shortly after arriving. The proper hotel santa monica , rooftop pool awash with sunshades. such a waste.

Rooms are super clean and modern with unmatchable views of DTLA. Nothing is left behind in this place when it comes to attention to details. The staff are the most amazing bunch, super friendly and helpful. besides the room itself, had one of the most amazing experiences with food at the restaurants on the ground floor and the roof terrace. it’s a wonder world of tastes. 100/100 recommended.

It was a proper and chic stay
The property is well designed and chic- we really enjoyed the view from our room and the architecture throughout the building. We also loved the rooftop restaurant and bar.
The location- although DTLA is having a moment of improvement, it still has a way to go. Additionally, if you plan to go anywhere from the hotel an Uber will set you back >$40 and it will take about 30-45mins to get anywhere from DTLA.
