Quaint, great library rooms to gather by the fire, wonderful location, kind staff.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was blown away by the decor – every corner was beautifully and tastefully decorated, creating a lovely ambiance throughout. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Soho, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the area and shopping.

The only drawback for me was the antique toilet stools fitted over modern toilets. While they add a certain charm, I found them uncomfortable and was unsure about their hygiene. I’d personally prefer a modern toilet for comfort and cleanliness.

Amazing location and charming place. Loved the honesty bars and the antiques. Bed was exceptionally comfortable (and a work of art). Victorian bath deep, hot and luxurious after a day walking around London. Staff super friendly.

Confusion about construction

Stylish atmospheric hotel. I felt like I stepped into another era, experiencing what a wealthy Victorian or Georgian traveller would have experienced (but with better plumbing!)! Such a great location too. I appreciated the whole experience. Bed was very comfy and sheets were wonderful quality. Although I was travelling for work, I left feeling like I'd been on holiday.

Staff were so friendly and helpful, Hotel was very cute and cozy. Loved the Gin honesty bar and cosy sitting room!

The extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy and the isolator did not appear to work. You could not have the lights on without the fan coming on so a relaxing bath was not possible. They did over to move us but only on the second night which would have been too disruptive. Other than that the stay was great.

The only thing missing for me was the absence of a full length mirror in my room!

Really, really loved this hotel. Stayed with my daughter and we each had a single room on the top floor. Very comfortable beds, my daughters room was at the front and she wasn't disturbed by noise from bars on the street. Only stayed one night and didn't have time to make use of the honesty bar and lounges, but will definately try and spend more time in the hotel on our next visit. Staff were very friendly and helpful, stored our bags for us before check in and after check out. Breakfast was lovely. Parts of the building were a bit on the slant, but it is all part of the charm and character. Shower was great, bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning was quiet. A wonderful base to explore from.

This hotel is an amazing boutique hotel, the staff are brilliant and very attentive especially Patrick, he goes above and beyond, the location is perfect for tube amenities and the night life as well as easy access to Oxford street. Perfect all rounder, we have stayed in the ritz / ham yard and savoy on many occasions and this hotel is up there with the larger hotels, the rooms are beautiful and so clean and quiet and the personal touches like beautiful tea sets on a complimentary tea tray make it feel like home from home. we loved it that much we are returning in November again because of how nice it was last time

There arnt really anything I can pin point. The hotel was having some renovation work done but even the builders weren’t overly noisy

The attention to detail was excellent. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. Very , very clean and we loved the sitting areas with drinks available.

Charming cozy boutique hotel centrally located for maximum sightseeing and evening revelry. Bed felt luxuriously comfortable. Old fashioned bathtub was insanely nice, best bath I've ever taken, as were the toiletries. Room amenities were perfect. The hotel is smaller than I had anticipated but the room was wonderful and I enjoyed drinks with friends in the library. Even though I was politely warned about construction noise I never heard any. If you prefer Old World antique to mid-century modern this is the place for you.

The history and character

Hard to get in and out of the bathtub. Maybe a step stool would be helpful.

Everything! The hotel transports you to experience a piece of London history first hand! Rooms are themed after writers and their friends who had ties to the property and the rooms are thoughtfully appointed, down to details like the selection of vintage books in the bookshelf. Truly a unique property, so romantic - yet complete with all modern amenities (especially loved the toiletries in grapefruit & mint scent). Steps away from the British Museum, the National Gallery and all the food and shopping that Covent Garden / Soho offer. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff too. Will stay again next time I'm in London.

The location close to many popular pubs in the area... which can be a pro or a con depending on what you are looking for (the ambient noise from the crowd after 6pm didn't bother me much but I can see how it can bother some light-sleepers)

Great room, lovely box window seating area. good facilities very nice staff

Shower head was very old and had some holes in the top meaning it sprayed water out in all directions. you couldn't get in the shower or have a wash without getting your hair wet or sprayed i the face. Would be easy fix with some metal repair filler. Small table in bathroom was unscrewed and wobbling all over the place. Quick fix, i tightened it back up!)

From the lovely friendly staff to the exquisite hotel everything was perfect!

The stairs were a big small.

Beautiful hotel with lots of character. We’ve stayed in the sister hotels and it was just as good as those. Love them all. Honesty bar well stocked and spotlessly clean.

There’s not a much to dislike.

The decor was great, very stylish. The staff was really nice. The location is perfect if you'd like to catch a show or go out in the evening.

The shower looked very stylish but not too functional. Lack of the resident cat, however, we were told, he is at a nice family.

The decor was exceptional my partner and I love antiques and it was just like we walked back into the past

Beautifully presented - how lovely to have a fresh flower on the tray- such a little thing but a delight such as we enjoy at home.

My fault probably - because I wanted a single room I didn’t anticipate being three very steep floors to climb - thank God I had the newells to hang on to as I did it at least 3 times a day - not bad for 82 year old! I was offered the other downstairs single for the next 2 nights but I couldn’t face repacking!

We stupidly did not realise that the up-grade you kindly gave us which was great except “up” unfortunately involved “up” 60 odd stairs which being rather old we found quite daunting……

Easy check-in/out. Carried our ridiculously large luggage upstairs - cheerfully! Air conditioning. Easy access to the tube, and within walking distance of many London highlights. Great bars/restaurant options just outside your door.

The location was perfect, room was nice and clean and staff was friendly. The space and other rooms to hang out with were beautiful as well! I was exploring the city a lot so I wasn’t in there much and my room was small, but it was perfect for what I needed.

My room faced the busy street so it was loud at times. Shower was difficult to work as the pipes were a little older - I wish there was a floor length mirror available in the room since getting dressed in the morning would have been made easier if there was one maybe hanging on the inside of the closet or something.

Great location for theatre, tube stations. Staff were friendly, attentive, couldn't do enough Air con worked well in the room Staff provided an iron on request. Mini bar, honesty bar for spirits, hot drinks available via room service Room service menu looked impressive. No restaurant but the bacon sandwiches served in the room for breakfast were excellent in size and quality

The originality and quirkiness and warm friendly vibe. More like home.

No kettles in the rooms. I like to be able to make my own hot drink when and how I like it. Also cigarette smoke drifting in my open window which kept me awake. I like to sleep with fresh air coming in. Think it might be night staff smoking round the back?

The room was charming in its decor and sense of history. The location was central and very convenient for restaurants etc. The breakfasts were delicious and the food was hot and timely in the delivery.

The room was in basically at basement level and so a bit depressing. And the shower and period style tub was a big problem because the shower curtains were made of cloth which did nothing to contain the spray of water from the rain shower fixture and so water was everywhere! I tried to mop it up - though the extra towels I asked for came quickly. Also, it's a VERY expensive hotel so this should not be the guest's problem to solve.

Impeccably managed - the staff is exceptional, friendly yet professional. The room was spotless and the location is great.
