Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“This 100-year-old Tudor-style house on a cliff overlooking the sea and surrounded by a sculpture garden is one of Lima’s loveliest lodging options. The sometime home and gallery of sculptor and painter Victor Delfín is a feast for the eyes, packed with art and backed by a sweeping ocean view.”

Lonely Planet review:

“With a fairy-tale feel, this lovely five-room Bavarian-style casona has claw-foot tubs, sculpted ironworks, a swimming pool and breathtaking views of the ocean. Run by the children of artist Victor Delfín, it features private gardens with his taurine sculptures, works of other artists and a sculpting studio that’s available for rent.”

Telegraph review:

“Living up to its name, the former residence of Peruvian sculptor Victor Delfín is a tranquil, art-filled and homely mansion set on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. Surrounded by lovingly tended lawns and cooled by ocean breezes, it’s the perfect antidote to downtown Lima’s cramped streets and mad clamor.”

We loved it.

Breakfast was really great. But the art at the hotel is what really blew me away. It was all so beautiful.

The weather was a touch overcast. Which is not the hotels fault at all. Surprisingly the view was still stunning even being a bit misty.

Beautiful artistic space, comfortable, convenient location

Stunning place, full of art. The rooms with sea view are amazing and unique to the area.

A kettle in the room would help, however there are good coffee shops nearby and the night receptionist easily got me a cup of tea when I needed.

Great way to connect to life in Barranco, Lima, Peru

I had a group of friends from Istanbul, visiting me in Lima. I wanted to make sure their visit was special. Lima has many options of hotels, I chose Second Home Peru, for its location in the heart of Barranco, its fabulous sculpture collection (Delfin), eclectic furnishings, PLUS ocean views. My visitors loved staying there as much as I had hoped.

Beautiful spot that overlooks the water with fantastic artwork throughout. Service was excellent. Room was clean. They arranged transportation to and from the airport for us.

This is not a luxury hotel with all the standard amenities but instead, this place has charm and is very unique.

Our stay was excellent

The view and location of our room was amazing. It was right by the ocean, which we could see from our room. There’s also lots of unique birds that fly by the beach area that could be seen from the room/ common areas of the hotel. The hotel also has amazing art work all around.

I enjoyed everything about our stay. Staff were good, rooms were clean, and common areas were good.

You won't be sorry this was the gem of a find!

Exceptional friendly staff and location. In walking distance to everything!

Not enough breakfast options. I don't like eggs and there were zero options. One piece of fruit and a piece of bread just doesn't cut it. Some yogurt and granola would've been nice.

I highly recommend staying at this one-of-a-kind location!

We stayed here for one night on our last night in Peru. I wish we could have stayed longer! Everything about our stay here was magical. We loved being surrounded by Victor Delfin's inspiring art in the room, the common spaces, and the garden. The views of the sea were breathtaking, even with "Lima la gris" making it so we never saw the horizon or blue sky. We had pisco cocktails at sunset in the garden and watched the surfers from above. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was hot with good water pressure. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was delicious--coffee, juice, bread, eggs, bacon, and fruit. The location was perfect--right in the middle of beautiful Barranco and a short walk down to the sea. We were hesitant to book because a night here was significantly more expensive than anywhere else we stayed in Peru, but it was absolutely worth it to stay in this one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast.

No negatives--we loved everything about our stay here.

Great! Highly recommend for a unique hotel experience.

Its a beautiful and unique property in a perfect location in the Barranco Arts District. Its filled with great art by Peruvian artist Victor Delfin. He still lives on the premises and you can meet him. I love the warmth and true hospitality that I was shown.

One of the coolest places we’ve ever stayed

Where to begin? The house itself is a work of art and there are beautiful, interesting paintings and sculptures around every corner. The hotel owners and staff were friendly and helpful. The location couldn’t be better with great restaurants and cafes steps away. The Barranco neighborhood was by far the coolest in Lima.

Nothing! Honestly, we had no complaints. Except maybe that we wished one of the resident cats would hang out in our room with us ; )

Exceptional

Amazing building on a great street in Barranco. Our room was unique and the views from the communal terrace and gardens were wonderful. The hotel organised taxis to and from the airport for us.

No access to clean drinking water - we had to pay for bottles from the 'bar'. Limited breakfast options if you don't want eggs, but this would not stop us staying here again!

Fantastic stay in the heart of Barranco

What’s not to like? The property is in a prime location in Barranco, next to great restaurants, and some nice shops. It’s super close to the Malecon which is a beautiful walk along the water up and down Lima. The grounds are beautifully appointed and the home is filled with amazing art, you don’t even have to worry about going to a museum, because the hotel and grounds are filled. The backyard looks out on the water and it’s beautiful. The included breakfast is also lovely.

The bathroom doesn’t have a door.

AMAZING

The most amazing place i stayed in Peru. The old building is well maintained and all modern conveniences are available (hot water, wifi, etc) . I love all the artwork that is displayed all over the facility, it gives you that sense of a bygone era and the view /sound of the ocean is just so relaxing. I will say that if ever I will be in Lima again, I will stay here again and the Staff are so helpful. Fun Fact, this place is home of Peru's most famous sculptor Victor Delfin.

Everything is perfect !

Fabulous

Location, helpful staff, the setting, sea views. So nice to let us use the room even though we arrived early morning.

Some suggestions: would have been nice to receive bottled water in room and maybe some tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was nice but slightly basic. The house was quite cold at this time of year.

Perfect position in a wonderful suburb - a great choice for Lima

What a wonderful place to stay and, as others have said, what a wonderful privilege to be able to stay in the home of Victor Delfin overlooking the sea. The location is superb, right on the cliff and metres away from some very good restaurants (we ate at the excellent Awicha). Our apartment was spacious, arty and we loved the balconies overlooking the sea. The bed was comfortable and the breeze through the windows was cooling and pleasant. Breakfast was simple but set in the lovely garden which was great. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Nothing was wrong, we really liked everything about our short stay.

nothing short of magical

During our stay in Peru, we had the pleasure of experiencing the unique charm of Second Home Peru, the Peruvian artist Victor Delfín's mansion. From the moment we stepped through the front door, we were greeted by an atmosphere of elegance and artistic flair. The entry hall welcomed us with its grandeur, adorned with large Versailles-style mirrors that added a touch of opulence. This grand entrance led us into a dining room with a coffered ceiling, exuding a sense of refinement and sophistication. On the other side of the first floor, we discovered a lounge area that sparkled with stained glass windows, showcasing an impressive collection of ancient pottery in curio cabinets. The focal point of the lounge was an exquisite inlaid piano, adding to the ambiance of artistic inspiration that permeated the space. Throughout our stay, we were captivated by the mansion's seamless blend of history, art, and luxury.

Ocean Views & Top Peruvian Artist

Wow staying here felt like hitting the jackpot. Ocean views and breezes, historic building, AND it's not just a place "with art," it's the former home and current studio of Peru's greatest 20th century artist. This is undersold on the website. In the heart of Barranco with galleries, parks and cafes galore all within blocks. We met Delfin in his remarkable studio.

Very good

The location of this hotel is what makes it worth the dollar value. In a busy city like Lima, you feel secluded and safe in this quiet area. At the same time, the location is close enough to several amenities and included in most tour pickup options. We chose to walk to the market a couple of blocks down and stock up our fridge with water and snacks. Breakfast is the same each day, it is good but if you want some variation, there are many restaurants and cafes on the same street. The beach is a bit of a hike but worth it. The hotel is located close to some wonderful sights like the Bridge of Sighs, so walking around and exploring was always enjoyable. We had read comments saying that the pool is cold, and it is, but with days nearing 30C, it was refreshing and cool. We spent the last two days of our trip lounging by the pool and swimming.

The apartment room did not come with AC but the seaview with balcony room did. On the flip side, the apartment came with a fridge and the seaview room did not. One other thing to be aware of with the apartment room is that here are only curtains in the bedroom. From the ocean-view seating area, you can look directly into the living space of the apartment. I found we mostly stayed in our rooms and did not utilize the gorgeous space as you feel a bit like fish in a bowl. We stayed at several hotels, through tour groups, and we did notice that other hotels would negotiate taxi prices for you when they called but Second Home does not. They will call a taxi for you, but the negotiating portion is all on you. Also, not all the employees speak English, which is fine but just be aware and have Google Translate on standby. Lastly, there isn't any seating at the pool so if you have the ability to pack a fold-up chair, which we saw one guy bring, do it!

Gorgeous location right on a cliff overlooking the ocean with stunning views. To top it off it is at the end of a very nice street with several good restaurants and bars. The pool was superb and so was the balcony of our room (1)

Not a dislike but the highway does cause some noise: earplugs a good idea if in rooms 1-3

Dream Oasis in Lima

The property was like a second home. Tranquil and relaxing with many good restaurants close by. Markets and shops too. The staff were relaxed and attentive and we enjoyed talking with them about the area and life in Lima. The views from the hotel were incredible. It was an art gallery inside and around the property, so it was hard to leave and see other things during the day. We are so glad to have stayed here on our last few days in Peru, to close our journey with some very special memories. We would definitely recommend this property!

A fabulous Barranco treat.

It was wonderful to be in the home of Victor Delfin. His art is absolutely everywhere. It was pure pleasure to be immersed in such talented & prolific creativity. The house has a wonderful character and I loved being able to see and hear the sea from my comfy bed in my room. The staff are friendly and helpful. I got my washing done there. Breakfast was served on the terrace in the garden which I liked. The house is on many levels and is very beautiful and quirky. The pool is great to cool off in and the hanging chairs are somewhere to relax in the garden by the sea.

I can’t think of anything.
