Waimea Plantation Cottages Kauai, Hawaii

Charming collection of old cottages on site fronting a quiet beach. The cottages are all slightly different, but well equipped, comfortable and clean. It is charming and understated . The details on the Booking.com site really undersell the property. There are beautiful sunsets and the grounds are lovely to walk in. The property does have an independently run restaurant and bar on site. Close to the Waimea Canyon, so you can get a morning head start on other visitors.

Location was great, the room was great bed was comfortable. Liked that there was an option for food on site. Was very clean and well maintained grounds, black sand beach was beautiful and you could go for walks. Loved how quiet it was where you could just enjoy nature

Wish there was a hot tub, after a long day would have been nice.

The little cottage was so cute, rustic, but with all we needed to be comfortable. Staff was delightful and friendly. Grounds were beautiful. Laundry was so nice to have access to.

Laid back and super clean. Loved the simplicity of the cottages yet seemed elequent as if were "top o the line" from an era gone by. So many places we stay (AirBB, etc) like to show off their "trinkets & decor" that it leaves no room to unpack your own items. All the rooms were spacious and very well maintained.

The town of Waimea seemed somewhat depressed. Many businesses closed or run down. Don't know if was seasonal or permanent.

Peaceful environment. Lovely walkable beach. Grounds were beautiful. Pool next to beach was great. Cottage was clean and just perfect for me and my mom to enjoy an amazing week.

Some broken mosquito nets, and some smells from the bathroom were not the best for that price.

Beautiful, not crowded. Feels as though you’re on your own private property. Quiet, not touristy.

We had a really nice stay at Waimea Plantation Cottages. We had a one bedroom, ocean front cottage that was great. It was the perfect size for a couple, and we really enjoyed having a small kitchen to prepare some of our own meals and having the covered patio where we had coffee each morning. It was also nice having our own lawn chairs where we could sit in the sun. The property was beautiful and it was nice to be able to walk right to the beach (good beach for walking, maybe not swimming). It's a perfect location if you want to spend a couple days exploring Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park. It was also 5 minutes from the Kikialo small boat harbor where we launched from for a Na Pali Coast boat tour which was nice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and they had a lot of amenities available to guests for free. I would definitely stay here again.

The bathroom was wide open, needed pull down blinds for privacy. The living room furniture is outdated.

For someone like me, such accommodation is just the thing! You have a hut all to yourself, without trampling neighbors in the next room or above you, it is clean and quiet. It is a very spacious, wonderfully green and well-kept hotel complex right by the sea. I also liked the bar, the food was delicious. Also an ideal starting point for trips to the state parks.

In view of the wonderful peace and quiet, insignificant little things: The kitchen could have been equipped with a few more things, such as salt and pepper, baking paper. I was also missing a kettle. The back door was stuck.

I liked the beer wall. It was fun. Staff was very helpful explaining how it worked.

Some of the cabins are near the intersection were the staff vehicles pass frequently- so can be a little noisy.

I loved the location. It was very private and secluded. There was plenty of space between guests. Just steps away from the beach or pool if you prefer.

Would have liked some sort of gym, but that's nitpicking. Furniture could have been more comfortable.

This is old school Kauai. A place to go check out for a few days or more. Unpretentious experience, original architecture and a much more quiet, laid back part of the island. If you are a “big box” generic luxury resort type person that wants perfect beach, everything just right and a precious person, this isn’t for you. This is a laid back, historic and utterly charming property. It is not a 5 star boom boom middle-America sipping mai tais and “dressing up to go to the pool” type place- Thank God. I was fortunate to grow up coming to Kauai quite often and this reminds me of how it used to be. Think authentic beach cottage and give yourself time to slip away and relax. I don’t have to sit on a beach and swim in the water all day anymore, so the fact that it’s not a swimming beach on-site doesn’t bother me in the least. There are plenty of beaches like that very nearby. Also remember it only takes about 1-1.5 hours to drive around from one side of island to the other.

I love the property and my time spent here. Honestly I had a bit of a weird check-in experience as property didn’t have my Booking.com reservation. They mentioned this happens often. There was a sense of “this is your fault for booking through a 3rd party” and some unspoken tension with the staff and manager on duty at that time (late afternoon). They ended up finding me a great cottage and I was very appreciative, but there was definitely a strange sort of lack of true hospitality and some micro aggression from those particular staff members. Almost like a “you’re taking up our time for THIS?” Imagine thinking you had a reservation and then being told you didn’t after a very long flight, you weren’t prepared to prove your validity and not at one single moment did anyone say “I’m/ we’re sorry about this”. It was a weird, unfriendly tension that seemed to come from the manager-on-duty down. I was holding up her departure for the day. Maybe people were having a bad day, which is cool, but a much more welcoming first impression will always be remembered and appreciated by paying guests. People always remember how you made them feel. It wasn’t terrible, but certainly an off-putting way to welcome a guest. At checkout, a different front desk person couldn’t have been more engaging and lovely.

Didn't realize that the beachfront is actually not very good for swimming. You get a fantastic view and all the ambiance but the swimming is affect. Although, if the water were clear it would be busier and cost a lot more.

The location was very safe for my family especially for my three young grandchildren. The house was furnished enough in the kitchen to allow us to prepare meals The facility was very quiet and peaceful. We needed a BBQ, and it was delivered right away.

We loved the location, ocean, beautiful grounds, quiet, and darling historic cottages. We also have very special memories of a previous visit over 20 years ago. The town of Waimea is charming too.

The restaurant was extremely basic and had plastic silverware.--it was disappointing. The staff was very nice, though.

Calm, beautiful landscape. perfect Accommodation for family

Reserved a room here to get a remote area where we could watch the meteor shower. This place exceeded our expectations. This was a beautiful little cottage right on the beach. IT was quaint but it was everything we needed. No, this is not the Marriott but it was so much more. We walked out the front door of the cottage and walked right up to the beach. There were so many stars in the sky and there was no light pollution anywhere. We will definitely return again

I don't believe there was anything that we didn't like. It was close to town and the trail. IT was just what we wanted.
