“Situated near Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park, on the shores of Kaimana Beach. It was opened in the late 1940s on property that once belonged to the McInerny family of traders. In 1964, it changed hands and underwent major renovations, reopening with 156 rooms over nine stories.”

Fabulous

The food in general is not the expectation, the price is high and the food is not good at all. But I'm happy they have a lot of restaurants near there 😃

Great Hawaii hotel in a great location

Hotel is great. Maintains a bit of that "old Hawaiian" feel that the other super high-rise hotels just don't have. The location is also perfect. It is a bit out of the madness of Waikiki...but within reasonable walking distance. Has its own beach right there. And a great coffee shop! Everything you need!

The room I had a was a bit small....but totally fine.

Lovely smaller hotel. Good location but without the city/crowded feel that most Waikiki hotels have.

Location, swimmable beach, breakfast & size

Room was on the small side.

Second stay, can't wait for the third

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, The Kaimana is located in Diamond Head. The beach out the front is perfect and not as crowded as the main beach area. The coffee shop out the front is excellent. Staff are all very friendly and it is a relaxed hotel.

Not so much what we didn't like but the carpets could do with replacing in many of the areas of the hotel. They are clean. That would be our only comment.

Wonderfully comfortable, relaxing, beach-vibes stay.

Wonderful location on a private beach at the far end of Waikiki. Stellar views of the ocean and the city. Great boutique beach hotel vibes. Exceptionally friendly, helpful staff.

The hotel is an imaginative renovation of an older building from the ‘60s. Some aspects felt a little tired, including the outdoor rugs outside the room (the hallways are open air) and the bathroom.

Peaceful Short Stay

Secluded location yet close with Waikiki area - it is good 10 minutes walk. Staff is great. A package of coconut water is given as welcome amenity upon check in which I think is cute. Lobby area has cute and boho theme decor, very chic!

The inital room assigned to me had A/C noise. I phoned the receptionist and was assigned to other room immediately. Room is quite small, quite struggle when widely opened my luggage For early riser, it is quite tough if wanna get breakfast around 7am as the resto on-site not open yet

I love the Kaimana, the staff is WONDERFUL !!!

LOCATION, cleanliness & thankful for valet parking ! The Hau tree on-site , fabulous! The lobby area & bar welcoming !

Went to Initial room reserved , park wing location , was horribly disappointing! I was able to upgrade to a small ocean view room for a fare upgrade price ! Had some issues with the entry door … but was fixed in a timely matter !!! No coffee maker in room for simple AM pleasure !!!! I have stayed there many times , updating is always a work in progress!

Very relaxing beautiful views (from front) great location

The hotel building was very nice overall. The interior was very well thought of and gave an overall relaxing beach vibe! The staff were incredibly friendly somewhat Inexperienced but did their absolute best to give us the best possible stay. The views were absolutely INCREDIBLE from the views of the rooms at the front of the hotel. The beach was so clean and tidy and very beautiful! Also empty as there was a monk seal giving birth which actually made it quite pleasant that there were no people on it. - you can still access the beach literally 30 seconds away! The hotel also provided a complimentary lei making class which was an extra added bonus because it was a beautiful experience and to learn a bit about the Hawaiin culture. To finalise the location was superb and at the quieter end of Waikiki meaning you didn’t experience over crowded beaches and spots.

The hotel building can be very deceiving when you book online. Let me explain … so my wife and i booked here for our honeymoon and I upgraded to a room which looked on the pictures to have a beach view overlooking Kiamana beach park. However when we arrived quite late at night, we realised that the hotel room we had upgraded to was intact in the park wing literally in the car park!! And nothing like the picture on the website. (I think that picture was the other side of the park wing, so be mindful) just because it cost more it actually didn’t work out to be at all a better view. Restaurant is pricey and waiters are a little average. However the food is spectacular hats off to the chef! <3 U!!!!

Suckered by a seal

Very close to a beautiful beach, however, due to the birth of a rare monk seal, we were unable to use the beach at all!! Beware when booking for a May vacation. Very clean room and bathroom, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff. Good views from most rooms. Convenience store nearby had all needs, including coffee. Split A/C unit was quiet and worked well

No access to the beach. We could have shared.... Room was very small for 2 people. No coffee machine or microwave in the room.

Great location and property

Excellent location, great staff, great housekeeping and valet, beach chair, and towel availability. Our Park Wing room was larger than the City View, and it was perfect for the 2 of us. Our room had lots of space for clothing and toiletries. There is a small convenience store at the entrance to the parking lot which has coffee, drinks, shirts, hats, gifts, and just about everything you could need, with a friendly, helpful staff. The Barefoot Beach Cafe is a short walk away and has delicious food and Pineapple Whips. The hotel is about a 10-15-minute walk to Waikiki if you want to avoid the parking hassles there.

Restaurant pricey. The website was a little confusing. We thought the $25/day fee for beach towels, chairs, and some activities was included in our room price. It's added separately each day. The beach was closed during our stay due to a monk seal having a pup there, so we didn't get to enjoy the convenience of the beach right at the hotel...which is why we chose the Kiamana.

Pleasant

I stay at this hotel almost every year. I adore it here because it's peaceful and the beach is superb—this is precisely why I keep returning! However, it's disappointing when the beach is closed, even for a legitimate reason. I feel that the hotel should offer something nice to guests as compensation for the beach's unavailability, like a fruit basket and champagne, or a discount on their stay. Given that seals choose this beach annually for birthing, it seems reasonable to expect the hotel to have a contingency plan. It appears the management is indifferent to guests' feelings. Additionally, the hotel has lost some of its unique charm. There used to be live music in the evenings and breakfasts bustling with tourists. I appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms; they have always been well-kept.

Quiet and clean, a bit of a walk from the center but gives you a good rest

Super super friendly staff! The bathroom in the room is small but clean, love the shower head! Bed is comfy as well.

Ok but nothing special for a luxury hotel yet the staff were great.

Close to Waikiki and on the beach.

Old amenities. Hotel in need of a refurbishment considering the cost. Not the hotel’s fault but the beautiful beachfront was closed off to protect a monk seal. Very sweet but I’d have thought it possible to give the seal half the beach and not the entire frontage.

It was what I expected for a 2 night stay. I plan to return.

The location is what I went for. It’s right on a very quiet beach, very family friendly, with a mix of some tourists. It’s adjacent to Waikiki which is just a short walk away. But so are areas where local people live. And it’s right across Kapiolani Park. So it’s quiet and green. I like that ambience. It’s not fancy.

They could upgrade the rooms a bit and add a few amenities, because the hotel itself is older and the rooms are small by today’s standards. And the staff seemed young and “in training”. They were polite and cordial with a professional demeanor. However they weren’t warm and welcoming and I would have preferred a more “friendly” demeanor. More informative rather than just answering whatever question you would ask.

It was one of the best anniversary stay-cays (even though only one day) we've had.

The staff was super cordial, efficient, responsive, and friendly. They keep the mood upbeat.

The location of the room 823 had very limited view of Diamondhead and the beach and no view of the city. If I had my druthers, I'd have picked a room on the other side of the building.

Very good

The bay and beach are really good and the view from our 8th floor room was great.

The mattress was way too soft and hurt our backs and pointed it out to management but no solution was offered. The balcony only had one chair which they corrected. The balcony could use cleaning.

Good for the most part

Beautiful room and staff at hotel from front desk, housekeeping, to valet. The room was very spacious with a great view of Diamondhead

Bathtub was very slippery so had to use towel for safety. Restaurant food was just ok...not ok for the price. Hostess was rude or prejudice handing us menu...seat yourself....next couple escorted to their table with order taken for drinks.

Pleasant

The hotel is located outside of Waikiki but within walking distance. The hotel has its own private beach and has Kapiolani Park right across the street. It is a lovely location. The hotel staff is wonderful. There was construction going on right outside our room the 3 days we were there which was loud and our room was very nice but quite small.

Quiet place to stay away from the busy part of Waikiki.

My favorite location in Honolulu: away from the busy area of Waikiki and close to the park. Good place to walk to places.

The room we stayed in is in the lower portion of the hotel, which has not been upgraded for a while. It is still clean and comfortable and I am fine with it. Just an FYI.

Hau Tree was amazing, yummy food and drinks. Loved all the amenities they provide-chairs, umbrellas,SUPs, coffee shop on site. Next time we will stay longer. 8 nights wasn’t enough.

Our bathroom was not cleaned well. Hair & dust in the corners, stuff on the walls by the toilet and garbage can.

There are two areas to the hotel. One is amazing, one is old and desperately needs renovation. Be sure you book with ocean view and you will enjoy.

Great location, kind and prompt staff, lack of in-room amenities

We liked that the property is located away from the center of hustle and bustle in Waikiki. The beach is never crowded. The view of the ocean, city, and the mountain from our wraparound balcony was perfect. We were worried about other reviews that mentioned lack of beach chairs, umbrellas, towels to borrow from the hotel, but there were plenty.

There was a strong musty smell in the room right off the bat. There was no fridge in the room, so it was difficult to keep any leftovers. I know it’s an option that can be requested, but for the price we paid I expected standard amenities to be in the room already.

I'd recommend to friends, and would go back.

Location was great. Room was good. Beach was not accessible. There were seals on it. I was a bit disappointed, but reminded that this is a very special occasion. It's not often that seals are on the beach :)

On arrival there was a guest card with someone elses name. A bottle of bubbles, which I took back to the staff. I couldn't find the stairs to walk up to my room and had to take elevator.

Very good

Great location of the hotel. Very friendly staff. Free parking space available on the street if you are lucky Perfect Hotel to stay and travel the island. Close to Waikiki beach. Nice beach right in front of the hotel.

The restaurant in the hotel is rather expensive and has only limited seatings and a limited selection of Menues. The bed is comfortable, but very soft. So I got back pain pretty soon. Parking is expensive.

Amazing beach and awesome service. I would definitely come back here!

The room was pretty small, a little shabby and not quite like the pictures. It seems like the lobby, restaurant, etc. got a remodel but the rooms didn't. We didn't mind as we were barely in the room, but just beware when booking!

Great location, friendly staff, furniture needs updating.

Location, staff, restaurant.

"City View" Does Not Mean A View of Downtown Honolulu

I liked the fact that the staff let us check in early at no extra charge. I liked the location (on the beach but away from the noise and crowds of the main tourist area). It is possible to walk to the main tourist area, as well as the aquarium and zoo. The onsite restaurant is very good (though a little pricey). Note that the restaurant is very popular, so guests should make brunch and/or dinner reservations days (perhaps weeks) ahead of time. If one misses out on a dinner reservation (and has no vehicle), there is food available at the bar until 5 p.m., or one can walk up the road a bit to a beach-side cafe that is open reasonably late. There is a convenience store practically on-site, where one can get things like juice and yogurt, as well as the usual stuff like ice cream and chocolate bars. The hotel and restaurant staff are nice, and this is especially true of the restaurant staff! Our queen bed was reasonably comfortable. (We had stayed at the same hotel in late January/early February, and the bed we had then, a king, was a bit too firm for me.) The shower was excellent with good pressure and steady temperature. The A/C worked well, but I am surprised housekeeping leaves the fan on so high, since it blows right over the bed. It is possible to change the fan and mode of operation on the A/C, though it is not obvious. There is a panel on the remote control that can slide down. Under there are the controls for the fan speed, etc. You will want to use this!

The term "city view" room is very misleading. Back in early 2020, it actually meant a view of the main part of Honolulu and the park beside the hotel (unless the hotel upgraded us then without telling us). Now it does not mean that. In fact, it actually means the opposite. We overlooked a parking lot and the other hotels in the area. Still, because we were put on a high floor, we could see Diamond Head and some of the ocean as well. I did not like the fact that the staff completely ignored my written request to be in a quiet area away from the elevator, and actually put us right opposite the elevator. Since they had let us check in early, I decided not to complain about it. We were tired from a night flight from Sydney, Australia, so used white noise apps to mask any hallway sounds, so we could nap. (The rooms are actually fairly soundproof, especially compared to some other places I've stayed in.) Another thing to note is that standard rooms like those labelled "city view" are very, very small (only around 200 sq. ft.). Even some of the "ocean view" rooms are very small. They are okay for a single person, but if you are a couple and can afford it, I recommend something bigger.
