Hotel Gerbermühle, Frankfurt

For an unexpected work-weekend in Frankfurt, I choose Hotel Gerbersmühle based on its location (in the outskirts of the city with easy parking and easy access to urban parking lots) and the pictures (indicating nicely furnished rooms and convivial common spaces, optimal to get some work done and reading- with the option of the bar and a restaurant).  I definitely must not have been paying close attention at the time of choosing.  The hotel, in my view, poorly qualifies as a soulless motel with little to offer in terms of services and accommodation.  The room, on the second floor, overlooking the garbage area, exterior toilets and a small parking lot, felt arbitrarily and poorly set up. A bed with a huge white headboard with some built-in spots, one chair stuck in in the corner, etc. Outdated, boiler-plate design.  Somewhat hopeful, I inquired about other available rooms but the person at the reception stated that "the hotel was fully-booked." (At breakfast ... only two tables were taken ...) There was a rank smell in the passageway on the second floor; it confirmed my general impression: the hotel seems clean but lacks shine and fresh air. The lobby/reception area is merely a hallway to the restaurant, painted black, without a sitting area. On average, a budget chain hotel probably scores better in terms of infrastructure, functionality and hospitality. On the second night, very loud dance music resonated through the hotel and my room. Apparently, Gerbersmühle was rented out for a party. When, finally, I went downstairs to the reception to inquire and complain, a kind person from the restaurant apologized and offered me a drink while trying to find the receptionist. Upon the latter's arrival, he told me, unapologetically, everything would end by ten. He couldn't care less; he was packing up some things in a box and was on his way out.

Breakfast at Gerbersmühle is just bland and served in the, somewhat dark, bar area where, during my two days stay, the heating was on low; (zero temperature outside). The restaurant with a nicer park/river view is set up for dinner yet off limits for breakfast. Optimizing the guests' experience is not a priority at Gerbersm¨hle. The only nice surprise was the kindness and professionalism of the lady managing and serving breakfast. At checkout, when I was prompted whether "everything had been in order," I "confirmed" but added that the hotel did not live up to my expectations. The receptionist did not inquire any further, just added "that there was nothing she could do about that" - which was probably true. Gerbermühle is very overpriced and, above all, soulless. In terms of hospitality, there are tens of better places in the city; do not stop off here.

People can make the difference or not! This was a 5***** experience and the staff is outstanding great! The check in was fast, heartful and professional! The restaurant executive manager and his staff created a personal experience that stays for long time in my head! I made a good and profitable business deal and these guys played a huge role not knowing they are - the atmosphere !

Beautiful surroundings, delightful art and architecture. Staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. On arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite, which was a lovely surprise. Food was exquisite, and while busy the restaurant staff extremely attentive.

There was a dault with one of the windows in the suite, however staff were extremely helpful and arranged a repair immediately.

The staff is so friendly and helpful; it gave our stay a personal touch!

We liked everything, but maybe there should be a water cooker in the room. And there is no laundry service.

The air conditioning wasn’t the best and not enough information on room service etc . Breakfast was quite late on too after 7.30 . For us travelling through we would have preferred it earlier .

We only spend 1 night as we were traveling. We didn't use any of the facilities at the hotel. It is a nice hotel, with spacious, clean rooms, great bathroom, and comfortable beds. Personel was friendly. It is located next to a small park which was great for our dog. We enjoyed breakfast which was fine too.

The only this which was a disappointment was that the air condition wasn't working. So the room couldn't cool down. We opened the window but there was too much noise. For a hotel with this standard I expect the air conditioning to work properly. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't compensate us for this complaint.

The restaurant on site was fabulous, the bar and bar staff were exceptional and everyone on the staff went out of their way to make my stay better. I can't wait to go back.

Location without car a little too isolated, anyway 700 mt there is the city train number 16 and 15. Easy to get the centre.

My room was on the 1st floor and was very noisy. The restaurant is good but the hotel is so so.

The hotel is very nice, a peaceful spot.

Who can sleep in the bed?! You can hear all the guests getting back to the hotel - clacking of the doors are that loud.

Hotel is a beautiful boutique property in a lovely forested area of Frankfurt. Outstanding restaurant, simple but nicely appointed and thoughtfully decorated rooms. A find on this business oriented city and a perfect respite from the hustle & bustle.

We really liked the room. It felt cozy and comfortable. Lovely shower. And we had a very nice walk next to the Main. Overall we had a good an comfortable stay. Roomservice was running, we ordered food in our room, what came quickly.

It’s a bit overpriced for what you get I guess. We didn’t try the breakfast because all reviews said it wasn’t worth the 19€ a person. we went for the bakery 5 minutes up the road. The hotel is absolutely dog friendly, but we paid an additional fee of 25€ extra for one night to bring him. That was a bit much in our eyes, but we already booked.. The rooms are next to the lobby, so it’s not a quiet place to stay.

The charcuterie at breakfast was not refrigerated, also not covered so many flies were sitting on the food. In general the breakfast wasn’t very nice presented for 25 Euro per person. The hotel offered to skip new towels and bedding everyday for sustainability reasons in exchange for a gift. We didn’t get any gift. Also we did not understand that this means that the room service gets completely skipped every day. The did not make the bed, cleaned, emptied the bin etc. For the price we paid, this is a No Go.

Excellent hotel for a very reasonable price. Quiet location in a huge park on the bank of the Main, with a lot of opportunities to walk, do some sports, let the dog run, etc. And it's only a few minutes from the motorway exit. The check-in was very quick, even the staff was still present despite our late arrival. The room is nice, everything seems quite new and good quality. Very comfortable bed and great shower, and nice river view. And the breakfast! It is served to the table and has such a huge selection of various things (eggs of 2 kinds, sausages, salmon, cheese, buns, pastries, fruits, yogurt, etc) that we could not eat everything. So I gladly recommend it and looking forward to the opportunity to visit again.

We loved our stay at the Gerbermuhle. The staff took really good care of us and the restaurant food was amazing.

It has been our third time staying there and we love it. Great atmosphere. Beautiful rooms and excellent food in the restaurant. Very dog friendly. Great area.

There was a party outside of our window downstairs with loud music. They stopped eventually.

The hotel is simply perfect. Gorgeous interior design, super clean, cozy, nice territory. I loved simply everything about the property. Highly recommended!

The Staff, cleanliness, size and location of our room, location of the hotel, and being able to park our car behind the hotel barriers, especially good as the venue was so popular. Outside dining area. Our dog being made to feel welcome. We would probably return when next we visit our family, but would hope for a more substantial breakfast.

The breakfast was not up to the standard we would have expected, especially as the first morning there was NO fruit available, and the only cold drinks on offer was water, milk or orange juice. May I also mentioned we met with our family who live in Frankfurt for the evening meal on the 22nd July, at the hotel, and asked for "Table Water", but was given bottled water at 9 Euros a bottle, which was excessively expensive, as we had 3 bottles which came to Euros 28.

Location lovely, right on the river & not too far from the old town (pleasant 40 min walk along the river).

Service at the outside bar & restaurant appalling - badly organised, too long to wait especially for the bar. Understand that staff have to have specific responsibilities so everyone knows what their role is, but there should be more flexibility when one section is much busier than the other. At times some staff were completely overwhelmed, whilst colleagues hung about and abruptly pointing out it wasn’t their job when asked if they could serve us. One particular bar guy was really helpful but you could tell how very stressed he was at times - not great for him. Maybe they rely on people putting up with poor service because of the great location.

The complementary bottle of water and the view down to the river. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the down duvet. Location is a bit further out, but in rewards is very quite at night.

The hotel staff couldn't reserve a table at their own restaurant for the same night, would be great if that could be coordinated better and a spot reserved for hotel guests. There was an iPad that was supposed to give all info on the hotel in the room - which didn't work though.

I totally love this property and I have been coming here since 2008. The location is fantastic. By the water outside Frankfurt but just minutes from the city centre. I had a beautiful junior suite and slept like a king in my cuddly bed.
