The Dean Hotel, Dublin

33 Harcourt St, Saint Kevin's, Dublin 2, Ireland (show on map)

Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“In a six-story Georgian building, this 51-room property bears the distinction of being one of the newest hotels in Dublin’s city center. A tasteful, reasonably priced crash pad for those who want to be in the heart of the night life district.”

The Guardian review:

“Reserved and understated on the outside, unapologetically hip on the inside, The Dean blasted onto Dublin’s hotel scene in 2014. Rooms here look a little as though they’ve been transported from a Brooklyn brownstone and are given monikers such as modpods and Hi-Fis.”

Telegraph review:

“The boutique Dean Hotel, part of a terrace of Georgian townhouses, offers first-class, quirky accommodation in a city centre location. It’s young at heart, with a funky ambience plus DJs at the weekend, and its bar and restaurant are among the city’s most fashionable spaces.”

What guests liked

All you need to know

A major partner of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2017, the Dean Dublin is a boutique hotel located in Dublin city center, only a few yards from the Gaiety Theatre. The St Patrick’s Cathedral and Old Jameson distillery are only a few minutes’ walk away from its front doors. The hotel is surrounded by the city’s bars and clubs and guests can easily become immersed in the rich culture and traditions of the neighborhood.

When not soaking up this excitement, guests can relax in air conditioned rooms that include a TV, minibar, coffee machine, electric kettle and private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries. The rooms even offer city views. The property is newly designed with vibrant colors and that vibrancy clearly extends to each room.

On Conde Nast Traveller hot list, the hotel prides itself on separating it’s self from the conventional. It boasts a rooftop bar and restaurant. The restaurant has a 270 degree view of the city. The effect is truly mesmerizing, just as is the entire stay at this one-of-a-kind hotel. This view and city is best enjoyed with a partner and this hotel is great for couples.

Overall very good,Room was exceptional with good view and facilities were great.

Great Location close enough to everything,Quality of the room was great, Facilities were excellent,Staff were nice and very helpful.

Funny how overpriced it is for the drink/snacks are in the mini fridge.Noise from nightclubs nearby but you expect that from the location, Personally didn’t find it terrible.

Lovely rooms and great location only a few downsides

Lovely room great location, comfy beds and amazing shower!! Also left us a locket note as it was our anniversary.

Didn’t have a wardrobe?? Also stunk of weed when in the building walking around the corridors of the rooms. Also downside of the building site but didn’t affect us since we were staying on the weekend and work wasn’t going out there

Really enjoyable. Met all my needs. Having the gym and sauna really helped as well.

Particularly like the feeling of the townhouse. Room was gorgeous, clean, and quiet.

I had a cocktail on one of the evenings and it was undrinkable.

Lovely stay!

We had a great stay! The staff was friendly and helpful, answering all our questions and meeting our needs. The location was great—it was walking distance of the center but not right in the middle of everything, which made it easier to rest. The bed was super comfortable and the size of the room was great.

We liked everything!

A fun and funky city centre stay.

Room was a litle noisy but thats to be expected in such a central location.

There was a lot of extras on offer, snacks and drinks etc possibly too much items for such a small room. Keep it simple.

Absolutely stunning location and clean rooms. Lacks the attention to detail to feel luxury but great for a couple of nig

The dean is on a beautiful street and both receptions at the townhouse and main building are lovely. The views from the restaurant were incredible.

The first room I was put in despite being a superior room had a night club and 6 industrial fans right outside of the window, I’m a super light sleeper and as I had an early start for work the next day I asked to swap. The person that served me was super understanding and did it without any bother however I did get the vibe their colleague stood next to them wasn’t happy about it. The rooms are really nice and I love the wooden floors. Everything in the rooms seemed clean however they did feel a little run down in places with chipped paint and a rip in my bed cover. The spa facilities are a nice to have but we’re not as clean as I would have liked and lacked luxury touches - the changing rooms need a thorough deep clean and we’re missing any clean towels, the way the sauna and swimming pool are positioned means you need to basically walk through the gym to get to them and the towels are kept by the gym reception. There are only a couple of towel hooks outside the pool so whilst I was swimming someone accidentally took mine and I then had to walk dripping wet and in a swimsuit to the gym reception to get a replacement. The glass between the sauna and swimming pool also needs a massive clean.

Modern , clean and fantastic staff.

Facilities were amazing. Super clean and modern. Had every little detail nailed.

The noise! Obviously out of their control but the music from coppers went on until 3.40am and was so loud and close to the room it had given me a headache by the end of the night. Unfortunat as we’re awake until 4am. There is no way you could have slept through this.

Worth the wait

I've been passing The Dean for 10 years, visited Sophie's a few times but delighted to finally get to stay. It has such a lovely atmosphere in the public areas and I really enjoyed the whole experience. My meal at Sophie's was great, such a fabulous space, and Gabriel (thanks for looking after me!) and the restaurant staff were good fun. The Dean really raised the bar when it first opened and I'm so pleased to see that it's still going strong. Happy 10th anniversary!

Maybe it was me but I thought that the lifts were a bit weird? Pressing the down button when calling for a lift never seemed to work for me (?) so I would have to go up and then back down :-D

Super Spot 👌🏻

Complimentary room upgrade. Great welcome at reception from Dave and drinks with a view on the rooftop. Also love the decor of the hotel, lobby and room. Super location also. Was exactly what we expected.

Having to walk out on the street to get to the main hotel for access to the gym/swimming pool especially without a robe or slippers.

Excellent location if a little noisy

Very nice hotel close to busy bars and nite clubs. But very noisy if you’re not partying. The suite also doesn’t have curtains or a way of pre ring light from the bathroom at night. The pool is small but heated and a really nice touch.

Super comfy and luxurious.

We love staying at the dean. We find the best are some of the comfiest we have ever slept in, and the showers are so luxurious! The location in Dublin is fantastic! Walking distance of everything city centre.

The parking isn’t ideal as the Q-park is maybe a 10-15 minute walk. Which doesn’t sound like much but it is when hauling bags in the wind and rain (Irish weather). However, this is not uncommon with city centre hotels.

Great location, nice restaurant and loved the pool!

Love the location of this hotel! Sophie’s Restaurant is gorgeous and the Power Gym Pool and Sauna were a great treat. The rooms are modern and have lots of amenities fit in! The beds were comfy too.

The rooms were very small especially for 3, and a little worn down in some places and there was no space for storing clothes etc. It was fine for one night and since we got a good deal but if i had paid more or stayed longer it wouldn’t be ideal.

Good location, amazing restaurant and sauna and pool are fantastic.

Location and last minute good value. Sophie’s restaurant is the best and the pool and sauna was amazing.

Not that I didn’t like but for 4* hotel it was little outdated - I mean our room. Had the smallest on ground floor and furniture could be better. Our bed was tiny but we are still short people 158cm. I guess any other taller person would not be able to stretch legs in the bed. Shower was good and powerful

Fantastic hotel in the perfect location.

Great hotel, lovely decor. Gym, sauna and pool were a welcome surprise. Very comfortable and well appointed rooms. Excellent restaurant with great views.

We were on the 4th floor below the restaurant and there was some noise from above. When we arrived on the Friday there was quite a lot of construction noise during the day.

Fabulous

I might have been lucky to have gotten a courtyard room in the townhouse - so it was perfectly quite and comfortable. Also Price more than decent. I wonder how it had been on a Friday night facing the street or a lower floor of the hotel. Reception personnel very friendly, also very kind and flexible about check-in at 13h. room original design and furnishing, including the "munchies corner". The room itself is very small but that didn't bother me in the least for one night. I found no cupboard just four coathangers on the wall, which was perfectly ok, but I wondered what you'd to if you stayed longer and had more clothes, and if it was raining and your overcoat and shoes wet - not really any room to put them. Also not really any storage room for the suitcase etc. But otherwise perfect. Breakfast in the rooftop restaurant in the main building (next door to mine). No buffet but served, but you order from the menu and pay there. Was ok. Could not work out if it belongs to the hotel or not. Had lunch there as well, was ok but not 5* quality. Personnel nice.

Great stay, helpful staff, nicely decorated room

Reasonably priced for the standard of room. Much better value for money than if you were to stay in the temple bar area. Hotel staff very helpful and allowed for us to check in earlier.

The construction work, I know this is no fault of the hotel but it was very noisy. Bathroom sliding door very awkward to use. This isn’t something that bothered me as I knew prior to arriving but you are around a 20 min walk from the temple bar area so this is worth noting if you are thinking of booking this hotel.

Very well decorated and a handy location.

Beautiful decor, staff very helpful.

Our room wasn’t in main hotel it was in the town house 2 doors down and you had to walk through reception out of the building through a court yard and into another building that looked out on to a carpark. Room was very small with only a sliding door to bathroom which did not seal.

Fun but some basics were missing.

The location was great and it had a good vibe

The coffee machine in the bar area was out of order for a week and nobody had the presence of mind to get a kettle so that they could still serve hot drinks. The room felt a little battered.

Despite my negative comment it wouldn’t prevent me from staying again, I loved it!!

We stayed in the StJames suite, which was very cool! Loads of space for. our family of four. The room was very clean and all of the staff were so helpful. An amazing restaurant and bar too

Our only downside was the noise level of the surrounding nightclubs hence why earplugs were provided!
