Kapsaliana Village Hotel, Crete

We liked that the hotel was a village which is in the process of being restored. It was authentic and unique and it had personality. Nothing like a big corporate hotel. It was beautiful.

Would like a breakfast egg menu/offer of freshly cooked eggs how you like them.

The location was in the hills outside Rethymno. Great selection for breakfast, from hot to cold. Peaceful and quiet. The pool and pool bar was excellent.

The shower was nice and strong but getting the right temperature was difficult and the shower head although nice and large, could have been better.

Amazing far reaching views; Clean and tidy in common areas; Always plenty of available sun loungers near the main pool; Attention to detail in the construction of the property; Excellent choice of breakfast items; Reasonable choice of vegetarian food or salads as described by the Hotel!

I had to press Housekeeping on the following: Changing the bed linen, I think given the fact when I visited Greece , I was experiencing a heatwave changing sheets should be a given not a request! Extra Nespresso pods; Toiletries. A do not disturb sign! I also found my bed was not the most comfortable I have slept in. I was disappointed by the fact only you are only provided with one small bottle of mineral water at the point of check in, the rest were kept in the mini bar or you needed to frequent the restaurant or use a car to go to the nearest village to buy more. I was also made to feel slightly uncomfortable being a solo traveller and in the end stopped eating at the restaurant in the evening because of this.

The whole property was amazing. All the shared facilities were pretty and well maintained with respect for the authenticity of the place.

Our room itself was in a little bad shape, which made it a bit expensive.

This was an oasis of a place. The most gorgeous hotel I have ever stayed in. From its history to the service to the seriously oppressive beauty of this place, it was almost too much to bear. The hotel is surrounded by nature and gorgeous greenery and so it smells incredible. I kept telling myself all my senses were overwhelmed. The rooms were quiet and the beds so comfortable. I slept so deeply and I normally have terrible insomnia... It was so hard to leave. Depressing actually. This place is like art came to live and you are living in it. Its beauty is captivating and warm. I loved the amazing hike you can do from the Arkady Monastery to the hotel. You can arrange with the hotel to be dropped off at monastery and then you hike back thru gorgeous paths and gorges. Breathtaking views and private. The staff at the hotel offered world class service and attention. They were wonderful and so easy to talk to and happy to assist with any request. The breakfast was a bounty of delicious fresh locally-sourced healthy foods. Overall, this was an unbelievable experience. This hotel should be in everyone’s bucket list. Thank you Kapsalianá for the most incredible experience.

Beware that you will not want to leave this place once you arrive. We did not want to leave! It was so hard. The gym is slightly small (if that matters to You) but has all you need. But honesty you are in the most gorgeous island on the planet. Go out and hike, run, walk, explore nature. Don’t waste your time on a treadmill… you can do that at home.

Very romantic and relaxing atmosphere. Quiet with a wonderful view over the hills down to the sea. Authentic rebuilt from an old village.

- Great property, facilities are exceptional - Staff is very committed and caring for guest needs - Restaurant and the food served are excellent - every single meal is flawless - lots of on-site facilities like the pool, wellness center and massage - overall, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in over 200 - We ran into the owner and his family, they are lovely people who have poured their heart and soul into making this hotel what it is today - Easy access to beaches in the Rethymno area

- Nothing that's a negative, one needs to.keep in mind to have a car to reach some of the major beaches like Elafonisi and Falasarna, we rented a car for the week and had no issues getting around the island

The location is a bit off road but completely worth that. Great view of the nature in its best

We expected to have more activities provided by the hotel as published on their website (e.g. cooking class is scheduled to Friday only, Yoga class on Tuesday.. we stayed Saturday to Monday so couldn’t enjoy any of these)

Loved the uniqueness of the property and the history behind it’s initiation. Beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

For me, personally, and whilst understanding the concept (as explained by the architect/owner), I found our room to be just a bit too rustic and not offering the modern day comfortable surroundings I would prefer in a property of this calibre.

Kapsaliana is the most relaxing, beautiful hotel.

A unique place and beautifully converted old village. Lovely honey coloured buildings, attractive pool area and views down to the coast. The old olive mill is preserved as a museum which was right next door to our room. Dinner was a cut above the regular Cretan taverna - very chefy and full of flavour, but that is reflected in a higher price. Excellent, generous choice at breakfast.

Our room was a regular double and was quite simple and dark for the price.

Where do you start! All the staff were excellent - a real asset. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms lovely, the pool and bar fantastic but the restaurant stole the show! The food was faultless - and the lamb with the kale salad was utterly perfect.

The pool area was lovely and relaxing. There were not to many rooms at the hotel so it was not crowded. The restaurant was first class.

This hotel is fantastic. It is tucked away up in a mountain and is a little slice of heaven. Peaceful, gorgeous, and an incredible retreat. The restaurant is amazing--super gourmet and the pool is beautiful.

An exquisite renovation of a piece of history! Beautifully restored. Each team member were so endearing and clearly really enjoyed their job. We felt very special and looked after at all times. An extremely charming experience. Thank you to everybody!

It was relatively expensive and needed a car to get there. Once you'd tackled that, it was an amazing stay.

The food was incredible.

This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in. Beautiful, comfortable with amazing views over the hills to the sea. The breakfast was a cornucopia of delights and eating it in the sun dappled courtyard was wonderful. The pool is lovely. All the staff were brilliant and welcoming. The fine dinning restaurant boasts bold reimaginings of Greek classics but I would recommend the Taverna in the next village (Amnatos) for hearty traditional Greek food. I cannot recommend enough

Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of food, all very fresh and beautifully laid out. The staff were friendly and helpful. We also had dinner on one night which had an excellent selection with fresh fish, which we preferred, and was very tasty.

We had a small issue with the hot water in our sink but after telling the reception, they managed to sort it out and did offer us an alternative room if we wanted it, but we declined as room was in a lovely part of the hotel site.

A gem in the mountain. You feel peaceful as soon as you arrive, although it is 15 min drive from the coast. Very nicely renovated, with plenty of places to sit and relax. The restaurant food is just amazing, the best we had!! deserves a star. Sublimes the fresh produce. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Nice hikes you can do around (we walked to the Arkadi monastery)

Very beautiful property, renovated to reignite the soul of the village that once was. Great restaurant - very good breakfast, but also lunch and dinner were consistently good Peaceful vibes Great staff - in particular, Dimitra at reception (fantastic restaurant recommendations), Stelios (at dinner) and Irini (At breakfast) Cooking class led by Adonis and Giorgios was great, as was the olive oil tasting.

A few small points re sustainability - towels were provided daily in plastic bags (non reusable), toiletries were in small disposable bottles rather than refillable ones, water in the rooms was in plastic bottles.

Breakfast was divine. So many fresh, delicious choices every day. The staff were exceedingly kind. The property was pristine yet rustic - a lovely combination. The whole property is serene.

I wish the pool was open later in the summer and that there was a hot tub.

what a gem! in the country, great spot to unwind. wonderful staff! food was great and I highly recommend doing the olive oil tasting - learned so much!

pillows were pretty hard, but the last night I asked for a different pillow and it was much better. just wish I knew this earlier.

Food was excellent. Breakfast particularly so - a marvellous spread! Very peaceful & relaxing atmosphere.

Steps. Could be quite dangerous for anyone with mobility problems. Small point - but could be made easier to find Reception on arrival.
