Cape View Clifton Hotel, Cape Town
Expert reviews
“The owner and interior designer Jessica Latimer styled Cape View Clifton to resemble a chic but relaxed beach house. With a distinctly South African air, it has crisp white and gray interiors, faux kudu horns doubling as hat hooks, bulbous vases heaped with protea flowers. Set snugly on the cliffs above Clifton Beach, the five rooms and two apartments have sweeping views of the ocean from private balconies.”

“Cape Town’s mountain peninsula offers any number of splendid views, but few surpass those from this small, stylish boutique hotel. Cantilevered high above Clifton’s crescent-shaped beaches, it overlooks the Twelve Apostles towering above postcard-perfect Camps Bay, and all around a huge blue sky meeting a rippling sea.”

All you need to know
Perched dramatically on the cliffside above Cape Town’s most exclusive coastline, Cape View Clifton is a luxury boutique property that commands breathtaking 180-degree panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountain range. Coverted from a series of run-down, dilapidated self-catering apartments, the property was transformed into a multi-level sanctuary by the mother-and-daughter design duo, Frith and Jessica Latimer.
Jessica, an interior designer by trade, intentionally curated the aesthetic to mirror the raw landscape outside. The interior features a thoughtful blend of calming, neutral palettes, rich textures, and reworked vintage pieces, creating a striking cross between California beach chic and understated South African elegance. Because the hotel is built directly into the steep cliffside, it features a unique inverted layout where the street-level entrance sits on the upper floors, requiring guests to descend through the property to reach the lower levels.
The hotel operates with a charming “help-yourself” philosophy, complete with an open kitchen offering freshly baked cakes and fine wines. When you aren’t lounging on the expansive wooden pool decks, you are steps away from the soft white sands of Clifton’s four famous beaches. The iconic peaks of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head are right on your doorstep, while the bustling Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and Camps Bay are just a short drive away.
