The Marriott Mena House, Cairo

Pyramids’ Road, Giza, Cairo, Egypt. (show on map)

Expert reviews

Lonely Planet review:

“Built in 1869 as Khedive Ismail’s hunting lodge, Mena House dazzles with intricate gold decoration and air that perpetually smells of jasmine. The grandest palace-wing rooms are borderline-kitschy Arabian Nights style, but the view of the Great Pyramid filling your window is a treat.”

Frommers review:

“Beautiful period furniture in an authentic 19th-century setting, Oberoi service standards, and the best Indian food in town — oh, and did I mention the view of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau from your room?”

Fodors review:

“This is the great colonial-era hotel in Cairo and has hosted almost every politician, celebrity, and member of royalty to visit Egypt, and it’s both comfortable and convenient for the pyramids. It began life in the mid-19th century as a khedivial hunting lodge, but there have been numerous expansions over the years.”

8.5 everything was amazing but as it’s a 5 star hotel the service in the restaurants should be better.

We had the deluxe garden view rooms - the rooms themselves were beautiful. The bed and sofa and chairs were all very comfortable and there was a good supply of drinks and fruit in the room/fridges. The design of the room felt very luxurious and was incredibly comfortable. Room service was decently priced and the food at each restaurant was good.

There were only two main issues, one being that there was constantly celebrations or wedding parties taking place in the garden which our rooms overlooked. This itself wasn’t so much a problem, rather it was that after these events from midnight until 2am stages were disassembled and workers were cleaning the garden, this was incredibly noisy and made sleeping very difficult. I understand that these events are of course going to take place at the hotel, however considering we paid £8000+ for 4 nights, it was incredibly annoying that we were kept up so late. Additionally the service in each of the three restaurants was atrocious. We ate there every night, sometimes twice a day and every time it took almost an hour and a half for us to be served and then it took almost as long to get the bill, despite asking numerous times. I’m not entirely sure why this was such an issue as the staff doing room service and reception were very helpful and attentive, as were the staff serving at the pool.

Unbeatable location, but service and upkeep need improvement

The location is truly one of a kind, with direct views of the Pyramids that feel like a dream and make the stay unforgettable. The property itself is historic and beautiful, and the atmosphere of being so close to such a landmark is unique. Breakfast was enjoyable (though more options would have been appreciated) with an extraordinary backdrop, the pool was excellent, and our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a balcony view that will stay with us. The grounds are impressive and carry a sense of history that adds to the overall charm. A special mention goes to Amal from 139, who showed genuine warmth, professionalism, and sincere hospitality. Her approach stood out and left a lasting positive impression on us.

We booked this stay for a birthday/Anyma concert weekend and sent a request through Booking.com a month before arrival to ask for a single bed, but we never received a reply. The hotel, although beautiful, looks tired in some areas and our room carried a dusty smell that did not match five star expectations. The main issue was room service. It was promised within 45 minutes but only arrived after more than an hour and four follow-up calls. If the delay had been communicated properly, it would have been acceptable, but the lack of transparency caused frustration and disrupted our plans. While management did come to apologize the following day, the gesture felt procedural rather than sincere. For a hotel at this price point, guests deserve clearer communication, sharper service, and rooms maintained to a higher standard.

Mena House had some charm and superb location. They help you enter the Giza plateau Had the pool and tranquil grounds t

Location Location Location and staff-Proximate to pyramid’s incredible. Did not upgrade to pyramid view because the view from great breakfast spot and elsewhere on the property was wonderful.

We lost a night’s stay due to a flight issue. Hotel said because we booked through a third party they had to charge full price. Had a very mediocre dinner at the same restaurant that does a good job with breakfast.

10/10 better than expected

Exceptional service, it was even better than expected. The views of the pyramids are an added bonus but the hotel would be a 10 without it, with just the service and the facilities as well. Our room was ready at 8am , and we did not even request an early check in, they just had it ready and waiting. I even received a birthday cake, after the very kind and attentive receptionist asked if we are there for a special occasion. I forgot to catch her name but she definetely deserves a raise. Both me and my wife found this to be the best or one of the best hotels we have visited. ( we have visited many mariott hotels as well, and this experience we had here was one of the best )

Exceptional

We had a very comfortable stay at Mena House. This was our second time here. We had some problems with our delayed luggage, Maria in the concierge team went above and beyond to help us out with getting our luggage back. Maria was exceptionally helpful and stayed in contact with us even after we checked out to help us resolve the baggage issue. This hotel was very nice, food was great and had beautiful views of the Pyramids. Look forward to going back.

hotel almost perfect

A magnificent view of the Pyramids. A plus is the direct access from the hotel to the Pyramids. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were very polite and always happy to help. There was always a spot by the pool.

There was a wedding over the weekend. At 3 a.m., we were woken by wedding guests being noisy in the hallway.

Gorgeous hotel, amazing staff, incredible pyramids view.

Gorgeous hotel, right next to the Pyramids. The free buggy service to the exclusive pyramids entrance (less than 5 minutes away) was incredibly convenient. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. We booked a garden view room and were delighted to be upgraded to a pyramids view — truly made our stay extra special. Breakfast was excellent, and the pool was gorgeous. I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else if I visit Cairo again!

Everything was perfect.

Incredible experience but is over priced for the services and quality you receive.

The property gave me the feeling as I travelled back on time. I loved the incredible view of the pyramids the property offered and the historical entrance to the pyramids.

The price of the property was over priced as the quality, services and facilities didn’t match the coast of the property.

A historic 5-star hotel with a tremendous view of the pyramids

This hotel is full of history, so many famous people have stayed here, you can feel it. I would like to notice that the room was nice, sure thing, but what really made it a very special stay for me was of course the tremendous view from the balcony, looking at the pyramids of Kheops and Kephren. You can't beat that! Breakfast buffet was top notch, and the restaurant 139 Pavilion offers the view of the pyramids in case you do not book a room with view. Also, I would like to say that I felt particularly welcome by all staff, especially at the front desk where both young receptionists I dealt with during my stay, Youssef and Donia, seem to have fully understood what hospitality means.

The bathroom is a little bit outdated, it could need a refresh to bring it up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel (and the room).

Incredible location but just to see/visit the pyramids and the grand Egyptian museum

The location and view of the pyramids is just magical. The gardens of the hotel are amazing which adds even more to the view

The amenities are very poor for the price point. The rooms are a bit outdated but all these points are compensated by the majestic view if the pyramids The location is ideal to visit the pyramids and the grand Egyptian museum but everything else is far.

A peaceful, once-in-a-lifetime experience with unbeatable views of the pyramids and top-notch servic

View: The view is hands down the best part of the stay. You can see the Great Pyramid of Giza from many areas of the hotel, including some of the rooms and the breakfast terrace. Watching the sun rise or set over the pyramids from your balcony or the garden is an experience that stays with you. It adds a level of magic and historical awe that no other hotel can match. Breakfast: Breakfast was excellent, fresh, diverse, and well-prepared. They offered a wide variety of choices including traditional Egyptian dishes, continental options, and fresh fruits, pastries, eggs made to order, and juices. The staff was attentive, and the setting overlooking the pyramids made every morning feel special. You could truly relax and take your time. Room: The room was large, clean, and very comfortable. The bed and pillows were high quality, and the bathroom was modern and stocked with everything we needed. Housekeeping kept everything spotless, and there were thoughtful touches like bottled water, tea and coffee, and soft robes. If you book a pyramid-view room, it's absolutely worth it. What I liked: - The unbeatable pyramid view - The peaceful garden setting - Delicious breakfast with plenty of options - Comfortable, well-appointed rooms - Friendly, responsive staff - High level of security without being intrusive Bottom line: If you're visiting Cairo, Marriott Mena House gives you a calm, luxurious base with a front-row seat to history.

Price of food and drinks: Onsite dining and beverages are noticeably more expensive than similar options outside the hotel. While the quality is good, expect to pay premium rates.

An iconic place to stay — unmatched location and thoughtful service.

Location, location, location! And the history surrounding the hotel makes staying here a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Our flight left late on the day of checkout, and the staff kindly extended our stay at no extra charge. Everyone we met was helpful and professional — excellent service all around.

Amazing Restaurant with the view on pyramids. Pleasant swimming pool. Good prices in swimming pool restaurant. Live piano music in the hall. Tasty dinner offer. Amazing breakfast offer - every possible food you can imagine. Staff - amazing. So polite and smiley and care taking.

Friendly and helpful staff perfect location is you want to be near them pyramids.

-They have 3 different restaurants inside the hotel - One of the restaurants is open 24/7 -Friendly and helpful staff -Can see the pyramids from hotel -Rooms are clean and tidy -comfortable beds

-This hotel is the best in Giza by far because the other hotels are like 1 star however this hotel wouldn’t be rated 5 star if it was located elsewhere. It would be rated 4 stars maximum. -Umbrellas near pool are worn and have lost their red/orange colour. -Layout of the building is like a maze on the reception floor and confusing. - I have stayed in places like Sofitel which was 5 star in other counties and the looks felt like brand new when it was many years old. Some sort of touch up needs to be done to this place to make it look for 5 star if they want to call it 5 star. If not then it’s definitely a good 4 start hotel. -Price needs to also be taken down a little because it is way too expensive for the area.
