Hotel San José, Austin

Wonderful Austin location. Lots to do within short walk. Real cute design and landscaping.

We’ve stayed at the Hotel San Jose a number of times over the years. This was our first time back in about 10 years. The property is now showing its age and could stand a major refreshening. Room HVAC was very noisy and hot air came down right on the bed (Room #26). Situation was uncomfortable enough that we will not be returning.

I loved the aesthetic and style of the facilities as well as the rooms.

Our room did not have curtains so the sunlight woke us up in the morning even with the blinds closed. There was also an interesting musky smell in our room. However, our room was built in the 1930s so that was somewhat expected.

Our room - a concrete block. Much better rooms were there but not allocated to us.

The location couldnt have been better. Walking distance to so many shops and restaurants. I liked the door separating the sleeping area from the bathroom. There were numerous outlets for charging devices. Despite the convenience and our Austin son’s strong encouragement that we stay at the San Jose, next time we’ll stay elsewhere with amenities commonly found in other hotels.

For the price we paid, I expected a microwave and coffee maker. The room was very small and the bathroom didnt have a counter surrounding the lavatory to put things—-cosmetics, etc., and that was inconvenient. We could’ve parked on the street for no charge but didnt know that and paid $30/day to park in your lot which elevated the already pricey accommodations.

Good spot locally - only issue I had was that there was no ability to make a coffee or a tea in the room and no were provided on the premises. Would of been nice to have a coffee tray available until 10:00 - 11:00 I traveled for business and in between calls if I wanted a coffee I would have to go line up next door (a 15-20 min effort)

overpriced for the design/comfort noisy would expect some amenities at this price common areas in concrete and gravel are cool/quaint, but not worth this price!

The AC in the room was VERY noisy! We had to turn it off overnight to be able to sleep (not nice in the heat of Texas summer)

Amazing location, beautifully styled and layout. Feels so relaxing even though you’re in the middle of the hustle and bustle of south congress

This place is cool when the temps are hot. the shaded gravel walkways, the cool concrete floors, the minimal Scandinavian-feel furnishings, the pared down, yet luxe comfort aesthetic — right across the street from the Continental Club, one of the hottest spots in Austin and Amy’s ice cream, some of the best ice cream anywhere. Super friendly, attentive staff. lovely lounge. comfy outdoor seating and pool area. truly first-rate!

A lot of birds (didn’t mind - love them) however, bird poop on seating outside of room not cleaned (I did not address this with staff)

The hotel has a very good balance of style and comfort, at a relatively low cost. For those who prefer something hip and casual but very clean, calm and with its own personality.

Ask for a room away from the road. This can be a little noisy and you will have to keep your blinds drawn or the passersby will be able to see inside.

the location is exceptional and perfect for me when visiting family. the bar are is super fun and very popular.

the closet was a joke. it was only half length so you cannot hang long items and there was only one small drawer, part of which was taken up by the hairdryer. what was an attempt to be hip was basically a useless waste of space. there is no where to unpack your clothes or toiletries. fortunately I had two beds so used the other as my closet.

Always great quality and comfort. Perfect location, staff is super friendly and efficient.

Due to Music festival in town, that I was unaware of, and we were not able to utilize the patio and pool due to crowding.
