Hotel Clermont, Atlanta
Expert reviews
“The six-story, century-old brick building is topped with a sixty-five-foot radio tower bearing the Clermont name—an original relic that came down years ago but was proudly resurrected at the hotel’s splashy grand opening in 2018. Inside the groovy, ’70s-inspired lobby with low-slung velvet couches and leafy house plants.”
“Hotel Clermont, for years a heap of broken dreams and dodgy characters straight out of the Tom Waits songbook, has in recent years been cheekily reimagined, boutique-style, with vintage-inspired décor, a rooftop bar and a terrific French restaurant. The old Clermont Lounge strip club beneath the hotel remains, virtually untouched.”
“With preserved stairwells and unusable original doors, Atlanta’s hottest boutique hotel has kept a wink and a nod to this historic 1924 Poncey-Highland building, originally the Bonaventure Arms Apartments.”
“There’s no better stay within walking distance of Ponce City Market and the BeltLine, and for cool factor combined with the conveniences of a modern hotel with vintage touches, there may be no better stay in Atlanta. Lush foliage and wicker and rattan seating welcome you in the lobby, as does an ice-cold PBR in honor of legendary stripper Blondie.”

All you need to know
In the not-so-distant past, the Clermont Hotel in Atlanta was renowned for two elements: the iconic sign on its rooftop radio mast, and the infamous Clermont Lounge nestled in its basement.
While these features remain, what lies sandwiched between them — a historic 1920s red-brick structure that has experienced both highs and lows — has undergone an extensive refurbishment.
The result is a reinvented 94-room boutique hotel, featuring a trendy eatery helmed by a lauded local chef and a few sought-after nightlife venues (above and beyond those found in the basement).
The revamp process was exhaustive, transforming a residential hotel into a gleaming modern accommodation — one that nevertheless retains a significant dose of 20s charm.
The aesthetic is inspired by the past but far from antiquated; it’s diverse, blending Art Deco and mid-century modern designs with contemporary art and state-of-the-art technology.
Poncey-Highland, the locale in question, has been on a surge recently, boasting an impressive array of nocturnal activities. However, the Clermont isn’t left behind in this aspect; with Tiny Lou’s, a fusion of French and Southern brasserie, offering dinner and weekend brunches.
The lobby bar provides an assortment of innovative drinks and after-dark snacks. Café Clermont offers Revelator coffee, while the Roof Top is precisely as its name suggests: an elevated bar with panoramic views and a lively mix of residents and visitors.
