More photosTucked away on the largest residential lot in Midtown Atlanta, Stonehurst Place is a stunning 1896 Gilded Age mansion that serves as a luxurious, eco-friendly boutique bed and breakfast. Built by prominent engineer George Hinman, the home remained in the exact same family for over a century, preserving its beautiful, hand-carved millwork and original granite pathways.
The building’s incredible modern chapter is thanks to designer Barb Shadomy, who purchased the property in 2007. She spearheaded a meticulous 17-month restoration that seamlessly blended historical preservation with serious green tech. It features a modern rainwater harvesting system, greywater recycling for the lush gardens, and solar panels hidden discreetly on the roof.
Inside, the inn swaps the standard stuffy B&B vibe for serious luxury. The communal spaces and six guest suites are filled with an extensive, museum-quality art collection curated by Shadomy, featuring original pieces by legendary artists like Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso.
Unique touches are everywhere, from the daily homemade treats on the sideboard to the “Eaves” room—a cozy retreat tucked into the home’s former nanny’s quarters. It is the perfect, romantic mix of old Southern grace, contemporary flair, and sustainable design.

Absolutely stunning interior especially the bathroom with a huge shower, wonderful hospitality with a delicious home cooked breakfast and brownies waiting for us in our room. The best place we stayed throughout our 2 week road trip to the US

Our first time at a B&B and we feel fortunate to have this as our benchmark- it will be hard to beat.
Quality landscaping, quality decor and quality breakfasts. The hosts were friendly and communicated easily with guests. Very responsive without being intrusive. Our suite was lovely without being stuffy. Good location for us. Attention to details by the hosts/owners. It was nice that free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks were available at all times.
Parking a little tight with all rooms occupied. Would have liked to have breakfast on the beautiful back porch, but it was too chilly. Although there was an outdoor heater on the porch, it wasn’t offered. I did not feel at liberty to ask if it could be turned on.

Welcoming, warm, and accommodating!
The staff were super accommodating! We bothered them numerous times with questions and they were happy to help. The little extras, that we didn't expect were a nice bonus and value, mints on the pillows, complementary beverages and snacks. The bedding WAS indeed lux as advertised. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Atlanta traffic :) but that couldn't be helped!!!

Twelve Midtown has a pretty fascinating backstory. Built in 2005 by the Novare Group and Jacoby Development, the 26-story mixed-use high-rise sits on land that used to be the historic Atlantic Steel Mill. Its construction was actually part of a massive environmental cleanup that transformed an old industrial eyesore into the thriving, walkable Atlantic Station neighborhood you see today.
