Labotessa Boutique Hotel, Cape Town

5 Church Square, 37 Parliament St, Cape Town, 8000, South Africa. (show on map)

Labotessa Boutique Hotel in Cape Town is this super-chic little gem right in the heart of the city, tucked into a historic 17th-century building on Church Square. When you step inside, it feels like a mash-up of old-world elegance and modern luxury.

There are soaring ceilings, French oak floors, marble bathrooms, and super-sleek design touches everywhere. They only have a handful of suites, which gives it that intimate, boutique feel, and then there’s the massive two-story Presidential Suite that’s basically a luxe apartment with its own elevator, artful décor, and killer city-and-mountain views.

Downstairs, Labotessa’s Café & Terrace is a vibe: lounge-y mezzanine spots, a terrace under trees, and a relaxed menu that’s perfect whether you’re grazing on snacks or enjoying their Diptyque tea experience.

And if you love the finer things, their on-site Boutique features Diptyque fragrances and skincare — so it’s not just a place to sleep, it’s a little luxury escape wrapped in Cape Town’s history, style, and warmth.

Expert reviews

CN Traveler review:

“Labotessa is a narrow, tall, blue townhouse that wouldn’t look out of place in Amsterdam. The hotel is tucked away on historic Church Square, which is full of architectural landmarks, including the Dutch Reformed Groote Kerk. Sunset views are a bonus.”

New York Times review:

“Labotessa Luxury Boutique Hotel sits on one of Cape Town’s most historic sites — Church Square, one of the first public plazas in the city, which used to serve as a slave market.”

Telegraph review:

“A 17th-century building on one of the city’s oldest squares has been transformed into a hotel with a distinctly European charm. It’s boutique in the true sense of the word – detailed and exclusive, with genteel, highly personal service and luxurious in a way that is both thorough and tactile.”

I‘d argue, best hotel in Capetown and definitely the best hotel we have ever stayed in

Probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Bridget, Rachel, …. I am sorry forgot all the other names, were simply amazing. Their service attitude is unmatched. They even walk you to the hotel if it’s in the area. The food is world-class too and the personnel there same thing, absolutely outstanding. The rooms are big, beautiful and one of a kind. We are often disappointed when we compare pictures with reality, this is the other way around. And yes it’s a lot of money but from our perspective it was worth every single cent. Next time we come to Capetown we‘ll book the same place, that’s for sure. I‘d argue there is no better in Capetown than Labotessa.

An exceptional boutique hotel

An exceptional hotel. It's a very small boutique hotel which makes it perfect. Hidden away in a little corner so it's easy to miss it. The service was exceptional, the room absolutely divine - it was huge with a mini kitchenette, dining area and lounge. The bathroom accessories are all branded and high quality. The hotel has a small cafe not a full-fledged kitchen and I think it closes early, however I knew this and always ordered take out and used the microwave in the hotel room. It's just a quaint and unexpected luxurious hotel.

If they had in room dining and a full-fledged kitchen then it would be perfect but the lack of it was also not a bad thing.

Amazing new hotel in Cape Town! Staff is extremely attentive and does everything possible to assure we have the best experience. Room is close to perfection, very clean, spacious, quiet and full of amenities. Breakfast is also great. It is located in a central area in Cape Town, just a short Uber ride to the main attractions.

Absolutely gorgeous boutique hotel with a perfect location and wonderful staff

We had an absolutely exceptional stay at Labotessa Luxury Hotel. The hotel has a fantastic, very central location which allowed us to easily walk to museums, great restaurants, and different neighborhoods to explore. We stayed in the Presidential Suite which was gorgeous and so spacious. The private elevator opens directly into a stunning two story modern home with beautiful furnishings, 3 bedrooms, and two stunning balconies with sweeping views and a plunge pool. Every detail was perfect from Dyptique bath products to amazing food, treats, and drinks left for us each day. We so appreciated all of the extra touches and the warmth and hospitality of everyone working there. It truly felt like a second home while we explored all that Cape Town has to offer. The breakfast was also fantastic and we loved sitting outside by the fountain. Martin and his team are outstanding and incredibly helpful and made sure that our stay was perfect.

High end accommodation with personal attention.

The manager and staff were exceptional. Great customer service. Set up transfer prior to arrival. The rooms were luxurious and well stocked. Felt like a home away from home from the start. Many small touches that are gracious and sincere.

All grand.
