Il Tornabuoni, Florence

Via de' Tornabuoni 3, Tornabuoni, 50123 Florence, Italy. (show on map)

Il Tornabuoni is a stunning luxury hotel tucked away in the historic Palazzo Minerbetti, a building with origins stretching back to the 13th century. Located on the exclusive, pedestrian-only Via de’ Tornabuoni, it’s a brilliant example of how Florence balances its ancient roots with modern luxury. As part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, it perfectly captures the city’s Renaissance spirit.

The hotel’s design is a masterclass in contrasts. While you’ll find original frescoes and grand marble accents that pay homage to the building’s heritage, the rooms are infused with a smart, contemporary flair. Think bold, jewel-toned wallpapers, sleek parquet floors, and mid-century modern décor. It’s an intimate space where history feels approachable and incredibly stylish.

A highlight for any guest is the “Butterfly Terrace.” This rooftop haven offers sweeping views across the terracotta rooftops of Florence, making it the perfect spot for a signature cocktail as the sun sets over the Duomo. If you prefer to dine in, the hotel also features an atmospheric space called “La Cave,” where you can enjoy wine tastings in a setting that reflects the building’s medieval origins as a cellar.

Staying here puts you right in the center of the action. You are within a short walk of major icons like the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio, and the majestic Florence Cathedral. Whether you are in town for the world-class art or just to wander the legendary fashion-forward streets, this hotel provides a sophisticated and perfectly positioned base for your Florentine adventure.

Expert reviews

CN Traveler review:

“This super-smart newcomer has a fabulous location rubbing shoulders with the designer stores on Florence’s most elegant street as well as being close to all the main sights. And at the end of a tiring day, you can sip a spritz at the rooftop lounge bar.”

Telegraph review:

“This smart, stylish hotel enjoys a prime spot on traffic-free Via Tornabuoni and is close to all the main sights and plenty of interesting bars, restaurants and cafés. The USP is the roof terrace with lounge bar and magnificent wraparound views.”

Beautiful location but lacking the 5 star details

The location is great, the building is beautiful and the lobby as well.

The rooms were very busy, lots of clutter and lots of busy print wallpaper, strange paintings of bugs. The bathrooms were very tired, the towels were hard and the sheets didn’t feel like a 5 star hotel.

A really great stay at a luxury hotel in a good location

Great 5 star hotel in excellent location and a luxury hotel. We were upgraded from a junior suite to a full suite which was great. Good concierge and front desk service as well as from the doorman

The breakfasts are not at top standard compared to many other five star hotels. The selection is fairly basic : no fresh yoghurt limited egg selection breads are limited

Though rooms were stylish the hotel itself was disappointing.

I liked the style of the rooms, the cafe and bar staff were friendly, the doorman was unfailingly friendly and helpful, the rooms were very clean. We liked the Hemp products provided, you could really manage had you forgotten to pack a sponge bag of your own. The stair case was stylish. The bar staff were helpful.

The welcome was very poor with a crowded hallway letting down the luxury of the rooms and a perfunctory welcome. Rooms were not ready when promised and one room not ready till 4pm, and even then desk staff did not bother to ring through and let us know. Our luggage was left in the hall of the hotel accessible to anyone. The suite was not much better than the double rooms so not worth the extra cost. The cafe was sweet but tiny, the roof terrace bar had some seating but the bar looked un finished and messy and no one was serving drinks and the perimeter railings were not safe, they moved if you lent on them. The bedrooms, while Stylish and super clean with comfortable beds had impractical design features, no suitable bedside lights for reading in bed, in the bathroom the height of the shelves meant you couldn’t use the pump action soap provided, there were no shelves for our own make up bags, the towel rails were positioned so you hit your head above the facilities, so while everything looked good the designers hadn’t given enough thought to how guests would use the spaces. There were no good reception rooms the main hotel was a narrow corridor usually busy with and made even busier with suitcases. The lifts were tiny. While the hotel was ok it was not as good as other 5* hotels in Florence. It felt like we were renting rooms from a disorganised office in a busy thoroughfare rather than entering a welcoming 5 star hotel.

Amazing stay, definitely staying here my next time in Florence!

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were beautifully designed to mimic the historical city of Florence! We really enjoyed the central location close to many touristy attractions. It is very safe and almost everything is a walking distance away.

The AC wasn’t very cold, and they didn’t have a spa or pool.

Luxury hotel with excellent service in a prime location

Luxury hotel- truly. Service impeccable. Adam bartender and service person extraordinaire! The location was amazing. We heard beautiful Opera on the steps near the hotel every night. They did not sing too late, but were incredible. This hotel is amazing! The facilities and service is outstanding.

The Hotel was Great!

Some details in the room description on Booking were not matching the actual room (this about the balcony). and the hotel was confirming that they informed Booking but it was not reflected on the website

Cannot recommend this enough. It was one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. THE ABSOLUTE BEST!

We loved EVERYTHING about this hotel. The rooms were unbelievably comfortable and beautiful, the staff at the door, front desk, house keeping and rooftop bar made us feel welcome, comfortable and at home. Everyone went above and beyond for us.

Absolutely nothing. We will definitely be back here in the future. A++ all around.

UnBounded by Greed. Avoid this Hotel

The Unbounded is in a building that also has other tenants. Our "first" room had constant construction noise-the drilling in concrete was loud enough to disturb us so we requested another room. Our "second" room had a sewer smell to it. So we requested another room. This time we got their "junior suite" which I would call the Deluxe King Room that was booked by Bookings as there was no "second" space to call it a suite. (This hotel has a problem with their descriptions as our room was suppose to have a balcony. It didn't. Their ONLY room with a balcony was their suite.) For the move arounds of the rooms, they comped us breakfast reminiscent of other Hyatt's in the States.

It costs us over $1000 Euros/night. In our month's travel, this was the most expensive with the least value for the money. Maybe, if I knew what to expect, I would have paid $400, but it is not what it seems!! This is as close to a scam as a hotel can get. Their descriptions are wrong!
