Freehand, Miami

The outdoor area with the pool is beautiful, and the location is great – but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. Our room was dirty, and there were many cockroaches. Around 11pm, we couldn’t sleep because the insects were everywhere and very disturbing. We went to the reception for help, and they changed our room, but the new one was still not good. We ended up leaving that same night and moved to another hotel.

I’ve stayed at other Freehand locations and had great experiences, but the Freehand Miami Beach was a huge disappointment. It felt dingy and rundown from the moment we arrived—completely unlike the vibe and quality I’ve come to expect from this brand. Cleanliness was a major issue. We actually saw cockroaches in the hallways, which was both unsettling and unacceptable. The rooms were equally underwhelming—dated, poorly maintained, and just generally uncomfortable. It felt more like a neglected hostel than a boutique hotel. Service across the board was subpar. Most of the staff were unhelpful and, at times, outright rude. The bar staff in particular were dismissive and seemed annoyed to be doing their jobs. The morning coffee shop didn’t fare much better—unprofessional service, a lack of basic options, and none of the charm or quality you'd expect from a boutique hotel café. The only exceptions were one kind and professional woman at the front desk and the hardworking cleaning staff. Freehand needs to either elevate this location to meet the standard of their other properties or be more honest and transparent about what guests should actually expect. As it stands, this property does a disservice to the Freehand name. I won’t be returning.

Front desk constantly on their personal phones and were often unhelpful, or if they did help it was with an attitude. Wouldnt return based on cost for service

I went on a solo trip and just wanted a place to sleep but I found more than that at Free Hand. Amazing staff, also the Broken Shaker staff YOU ARE THE BEST. Honestly amazing place. This will be my go to place. Very recommended. Value vs Money 10/10

There was a hole in the window, we slept at the street side so there was a lot of noise. I complained at the service desk and they gave me the email of the manager for a compensation. It has been 5 weeks and I've sent the email again but no response. This was a terrible stay and even more terrible client help!

I checked out one day ahead and the property forgot to return the money, when I found the delayed money return I write to the property. And then the property returned the money to booking.com, but the booking.com refused to give me the money back. This is terrible. I will not book any more on booking.com. Never again!

I never received my refund after talking to front desk Alvin I was supposed to be refunded with no fee charged for my booking since I was blocked from the property for a unknown reason! Never received my 80 back horrible place if you aren’t a tourist don’t book here they will block you from property and can’t give a reason

Very nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Easy to get there from the airport. Room was clean and spacious . They also offered beach towels for you to use. Great swimming pool to chill.

Not sure if the bar belongs to the hostel but prices are pretty high, 20 dollars for a cocktail. That’s way too much for a bar in a hostel.

1) One of the very few budget options in a city like Miami, with a good swimming pool area. 2) Excellent location near South Beach, and the boardwalk. 3) Supermarket and breakfast place very close. 4) A beautiful old property.

1) A long-term resident in my dorm had stunk up the room with trash everywhere around the bed, and a couple of tattoed-up residents probably hiding from deportation who did not see sunlight throughout my stay. 2) The long term resident (think Saul's elder brother from Better Call Saul) kept both air-conditioners on freezing and refused to turn them down after several requests, with an explanation 'I'm from New York, that's how I like it and that's that'. 3) The wi-fi did not work for 90% of my two-day stay. The receptionist was completely unconcerned, chewing away at gum and giving a template answer 'our technical team is working on it' for 36 hours.

The first night the bed didn't have a pillow and I had to sleep without, as the customer service didn't bother to look for one.

Honestly I was not happy with the meal during breakfast and dinners. Not worth the money, honestly, some improvement on the quality, look and ingredients would be ideal to improve the whole experience.

The morning coffee and breakfast bar was SLOW service.... it maybe was just that one day, but maybe check it out and go elsewhere.

The location is good so you can avoid renting the car and just rely on bikes/public transport.

The place is as filthy as it can get specially the mixed dorm rooms. They have BED BUGS!!! The furniture is old and bunk beds do not have proper safety rails or privacy curtains. There is just one washroom per dorm which was never cleaned in 5 days so one can imagine how filthy it can get specially with random tourists around the globe and their cleanliness/hygiene awareness. We had to do airbnb on urgent basis on top of this existing reservation. I have lived in a hostel before and this one was probably the worst. If you are on a tight budget do yourself a favour and book airbnb which will be way better than this ghetto hostel.

Close to beach

The hostel has NO WiFi, which is ridiculous. The location is bad, no restaurants around the hotel. The front desk girl is rude to me. Too noisy, too loud music, you can hear it from hotel room.

The shared spaces were beautiful and the location was great.

So many things were way off. There were no blankets on the beds. The bunk beds were hard to get into. The windows and walls were paper thin and it was very loud. They didn’t replace towels, you had to get them front desk, but they ran out of towels. No blow dryer or any amenities in room. WI-FI OUT OUR ENTIRE STAY. Barely any cell service too. Doors had no padlock and no spring so they didn’t shut right. Toilet seat was crooked so my butt touched the main part of the toilet. Bathroom fan was crazy loud. Closets had no hangers. Cushions on lounge chairs by pool were soaking wet and smelled like bacteria. No care at all put into providing a nice stay.

The location

That we booked a quad room for us two but hot dragged to two different 12 bed rooms. In the end we needed to sleep in one bed. We paid for way more and did not get anything.

Absolute worst staff I have ever experienced
