Built right on Batu Bolong Beach, it was the very first hotel in the area. Instead of hiring a trendy architect, the hotel was designed entirely by its owner, Anhar Setjadibrata, and his family. They built it as a labor of love to house his mind-blowing personal collection of original Indonesian antiquities.
The moment you step into the lobby, you’re greeted by a massive, 15-foot statue of the mythical Garuda bird, hand-carved from a 120-year-old tree trunk. The architecture itself feels like a portal to the past, heavily inspired by a secluded, traditional village in Central Bali. Every single room is individually styled to tell a different folklore or legend from Indonesia’s rich history.
One of the coolest spots on the property is Ji at Bale Sutra, their Japanese fusion restaurant. The building incorporates a real, 310-year-old Chinese temple that Anhar rescued from ruin in Java, transporting it piece by piece to Bali. It’s an absolute dream destination if you want to skip the generic modern villas and live inside a living, breathing history book.

Beautiful oasis in the heart of Canggu
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The rooms, the grounds, just stunning. The staff are so lovely and friendly!
Sadly they were renovating the roof while we were there. We had no idea about this at the time of booking, so there was a lot of noise during the day and we couldn't really use the pool as it was right next to the roof they were constructing.
Another thing which is outside the control of the hotel is it is a few steps away from 2 bars/clubs that have music blaring until 5am every night.
Lots of mozzies get into the room, so use bets and mozzies spray.

Food was good, rooms were nice, staff were friendly but nothing worth going back for.
Breakfast was good. They delivered it to the room and I was able to order as much as I liked. Taste was good too.
The hotel was under renovation and maintenance was not that great. The lobby was entirely inaccessible, reducing the charm of the hotel. I wasn't informed about the renovation. When I told them about my dissatisfaction they gave me two hours of complimentary massage as compensation.
I also ended up paying double for taxi service as I was wrongfully assisted by staff.

Beautiful property but busy with renovations which intrude on your enjoyment of the hotel.
Reno, WiFi didn’t hardly worked in our room. No privacy at pool. Not all plugs worked in our room. Weren’t told about renovations when we booked.

Gorgeous gem of a hotel in a prime prime location in Canggu

Gorgeous place to stay.
The accommodation was beautiful. The staff were friendly. The yoga was great. Fish pond in our open bathroom was a special touch.

Friendly staff, amazing food, with great views.
Tugu is amazing. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful with what ever you need. They have some of the best restaurants on the beautiful property.
The room key can be difficult to transport the key. You’ll need a small bag to carry it.

great location and a hotel coupled with modern facilities and traditional authentic culture. Restaurants and food exceptional.
huge room with its own pool was fabulous. close to beach bars, sports bars .
The hotel has no Gym.

Worth a visit and take the time to explore all of the property.
Old world charm and very friendly and accommodating staff.
Dinner at the on site IWA restaurant was amazing.
Loved the outdoor shower
Suggest you avoid staying on a Saturday night; local clubs nearby meant we needed to use the the hotel provided ear plugs.

Beautiful dream hotel
The hotel is like walking into an art museum, the gardens and pool beautiful and the garden villas amazing. The reservation desk staff are exceptional, I needed to change the booking and they made every effort to accommodate our changes. Highly recommend

Traditional, and good quality stay in Canggu
Hotel is very well located.
In seconds, you can reach Canggu beach.
Restaurants and foods are exceptional!
Well preserved historical property. At the renovation, the hotel kept all the traditional values and mixed with comfort.
First day, the hotel as we understood overbooked and they gave us another room which was not the same quality as we saw and booked by booking. However, the manager compensate this mistake with nice gestures and we left the hotel very happy at the end.

Music from beach clubs could be disturbing at night but usually all parties end at ~2 am and hotel provides free ear plugs

Beautiful special hotel. Nice pool, great roof top terras and the best breakfast.
No gym, and I thought it would be on the beach. It is close but not directly on the beach. Opposite a busy nightclub (but noise in room was okay)

Great main facilities, rooms need a lot of maintenance
We tried to ask for a paid upgrade but the extra money was way too much. We needed to pay 50% of day rate for a late checkout of a few hours.
