New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel Honolulu, Hawaii
Expert reviews
“Situated at the quieter Diamond Head end of Waikiki, The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel is affordable, new and right on the beach. Service is solid all-around without being flashy.”
“Situated near Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park, on the shores of Kaimana Beach. It was opened in the late 1940s on property that once belonged to the McInerny family of traders. In 1964, it changed hands and underwent major renovations, reopening with 156 rooms over nine stories.”

Pleasant
I stay at this hotel almost every year. I adore it here because it's peaceful and the beach is superb—this is precisely why I keep returning! However, it's disappointing when the beach is closed, even for a legitimate reason. I feel that the hotel should offer something nice to guests as compensation for the beach's unavailability, like a fruit basket and champagne, or a discount on their stay. Given that seals choose this beach annually for birthing, it seems reasonable to expect the hotel to have a contingency plan. It appears the management is indifferent to guests' feelings. Additionally, the hotel has lost some of its unique charm. There used to be live music in the evenings and breakfasts bustling with tourists. I appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms; they have always been well-kept.

Quiet and clean, a bit of a walk from the center but gives you a good rest
Super super friendly staff! The bathroom in the room is small but clean, love the shower head! Bed is comfy as well.
Saw one red spot on our bed sheet one day.

Ok but nothing special for a luxury hotel yet the staff were great.
Close to Waikiki and on the beach.
Old amenities. Hotel in need of a refurbishment considering the cost. Not the hotel’s fault but the beautiful beachfront was closed off to protect a monk seal. Very sweet but I’d have thought it possible to give the seal half the beach and not the entire frontage.

Excellent local and impeccable customer service.
Location and customer service. Right on the beach, provided chairs and towels.
Did not have a pool

It was what I expected for a 2 night stay. I plan to return.
The location is what I went for. It’s right on a very quiet beach, very family friendly, with a mix of some tourists. It’s adjacent to Waikiki which is just a short walk away. But so are areas where local people live. And it’s right across Kapiolani Park. So it’s quiet and green. I like that ambience. It’s not fancy.
They could upgrade the rooms a bit and add a few amenities, because the hotel itself is older and the rooms are small by today’s standards. And the staff seemed young and “in training”. They were polite and cordial with a professional demeanor. However they weren’t warm and welcoming and I would have preferred a more “friendly” demeanor. More informative rather than just answering whatever question you would ask.

It was one of the best anniversary stay-cays (even though only one day) we've had.
The staff was super cordial, efficient, responsive, and friendly. They keep the mood upbeat.
The location of the room 823 had very limited view of Diamondhead and the beach and no view of the city. If I had my druthers, I'd have picked a room on the other side of the building.

Very good
Great location, friendly staff.
Room was quite small even as a solo traveler, and the carpet seemed wet and dirty. Hau Tree is ridiculously expensive for what you get.

Very good
The bay and beach are really good and the view from our 8th floor room was great.
The mattress was way too soft and hurt our backs and pointed it out to management but no solution was offered. The balcony only had one chair which they corrected. The balcony could use cleaning.

Great location and property
Excellent location, great staff, great housekeeping and valet, beach chair, and towel availability. Our Park Wing room was larger than the City View, and it was perfect for the 2 of us. Our room had lots of space for clothing and toiletries. There is a small convenience store at the entrance to the parking lot which has coffee, drinks, shirts, hats, gifts, and just about everything you could need, with a friendly, helpful staff. The Barefoot Beach Cafe is a short walk away and has delicious food and Pineapple Whips. The hotel is about a 10-15-minute walk to Waikiki if you want to avoid the parking hassles there.
Restaurant pricey. The website was a little confusing. We thought the $25/day fee for beach towels, chairs, and some activities was included in our room price. It's added separately each day. The beach was closed during our stay due to a monk seal having a pup there, so we didn't get to enjoy the convenience of the beach right at the hotel...which is why we chose the Kiamana.
