The Bloomsbury Hotel, London
The Bloomsbury Hotel is a stunning piece of architectural history, originally designed in 1928 by the legendary Sir Edwin Lutyens. Once the YWCA Central Club, the Grade II listed building was a sanctuary for women, featuring a swimming pool that remains hidden beneath the hotel’s floorboards to this day. Its elegant neo-Georgian façade and thoughtful details, like the yin-yang metalwork on the staircases, reflect Lutyens’ status as a master architect.
The hotel celebrates its deep literary roots, perfectly matching the intellectual legacy of the local Bloomsbury area, which was the stomping ground for legends like Virginia Woolf. The hotel’s Seamus Heaney Library is a highlight—an intimate, book-lined space dedicated to the Nobel Prize-winning poet who was a frequent guest. It serves as a quiet, charming nod to the property’s long-standing connection to London’s artistic community.
Guests often gravitate toward the Coral Room, a vibrant, grand salon bar designed by Martin Brudnizki, or the heated Dalloway Terrace, which is an Instagram favorite for its seasonal floral displays. The interiors blend 1920s glamour with modern, opulent touches, such as freestanding copper baths in some of the suites.
Its location is unbeatable for culture lovers. You are just a short walk from the British Museum and the lively streets of Covent Garden and Soho. Whether you are in town for the West End theatre scene or looking to explore the area’s rich history, the hotel’s position in the heart of London’s literary and artistic district makes it an ideal base.
Expert reviews
“The Bloomsbury is bringing the Grand Dame back to London. Even if you are not staying there, you have to make time for a cocktail or two at its fabulously designed Coral Room. But the location, in central-west London, walking distance to major sites and train lines that can get you anywhere in town, is unbeatable in this city.”

Excellent room - from size to style and comfort - it hit all the marks.
Shower could have been better (bigger and i prefer tiles over tub)

Great stay central london
Good hotel great location. Had a good meal in the Dalloway and Coral Bar had a good atmosphere.
Sometimes Coral Bar so busy you can't get in even if a resident. Maybe another Bar would be helpful.

Overall we had a lovely time and hope to go back again at some point
Lovely building very warm and welcoming in a good location. We were made welcome the room was small but everything we needed, it was very hot but they adjusted the temperature which was much more comfortable. The rest of the hotel was also lovely we had a drink in the bar and the staff were very friendly.
We felt the service charge took the edge off the whole experience. It was even added to breakfast which was mostly a buffet and the coffee was watery and disappointing. However the food was great also the breakfast room wasn’t as welcoming as the rest of the hotel. When I checked my credit card there was another charge which I phoned to query I was asked to send a screenshot and had to chase it several times which was disappointing as I felt they weren’t very apologetic or helpful.

Could do better
Location and layout of the hotel was good, concierge, restaurant and bar staff were great, reception team not helpful when we first arrived as had to wait over 50 minutes from original check in time and they advised they’d call which they didn’t
For a four star hotel the room was adequate but stains on the carpet , grouting missing on the bathroom and poor water pressure from shower was a shame for this type of hotel

Festive and Memorable Christmas Stay that was Warm and Inviting - Much Thanks!
Our stay included Christmas and the hotel did so many special things to make it festive for their Holiday Guests. Thank you.
It's a lovely, boutique size hotel tucked away in a very busy neighborhood. Outstanding decor that makes it special and unique, paying homage to its heritage and the neighborhood. The Coral Room and Library are charming. You can see why The Coral Room is a popular choice. The service staff is top notch, helpful and friendly. Kudos to Ivan who was so attentive and helpful when planning this trip and while there as well. He is a great asset.
Our room was on the smaller size compared to others that were in the same price category.

Quality, kindness and old style finesse
Another fantastic stay at The Bloomsbury, everyone is friendly and helpful, well appointed rooms, with coffee and water and a stocked mini bar, ability to chromecast your own device to the TV, turn down service with chocolate and bookmark is a lovely touch. The coral bar had a vibrant atmosphere and delicious cocktails. Perfect central location for the theatres, Soho and Covent Garden. A real place to relax after a busy day in the city.
Nothing really, just for my next visit I would booked a larger room, despite utilising the space well, after our 4 cases and 2 adults in the room it felt a little cramped and we missed our extra large bed.

Convenient and Quite comfortable
Convenient to Bloomsbury and West End theatres, as well as Elizabeth Line to Heathrow from Tottenham Court Station. Russell Square and British Museum is just around the corner. Well appointed rooms with good amenities.
Steps to lobby, but bell staff is always there offering to help carry.

It was lovely
The staff were really welcoming and friendly
Just a small thing I needed a normal 3 pin plug socket next to the bed to charge my phone. There was only 1 plug on the other side.
