Canto de Luz, Porto

First off, the staff are absolutely amazing. So friendly and incredibly helpful! We really enjoyed our stay, but there were a few things that kept it from being a perfect 10. But it was close!

The property is relatively new and I think they are still working out some of the kinks. For one, there is a staircase that you need to walk up and down if you’re staying in a certain part of the property. The staircase is outside and has no lighting whatsoever. Not exactly ideal. Also, while we enjoyed how modern and tech savvy the property was, we struggled to understand it completely and utilize it to its full extent. It took a couple of days to really figure it out and get comfortable with — and by then our stay was over.

To provide room service for lunch or dinner. Or provide menus for restaurants that will deliver to the door.

It was really good hotel. They were very friendly and treated us like VIP. The breakfast was really good. The Wi-Fi was excellent. The location was also perfect for all our travels. The staff was able to make dinner and lunch reservations for us. Really enjoyed the stay!

Breakfast was delicious. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Good location with lots of choice for eating on the nearby streets.

The room. We were on the ground floor, little natural night and noisy from the street. The one bedroom was divided by shelves and the only way to get into the bed was to crawl from the bottom. No ability to walk around.

Our room faced the front street so could be noisy at times. Also noisy in the mornings when breakfast was being prepared as our room was in the same floor

Beautiful boutique bedroom. Comfortable bed and contemporary decor. Location in old town, about 15 minutes walk down to the river. Lots of restaurants within a 10 minute walk.

By far the best breakfast I have ever had at a hotel! Loved the location, and the space was gorgeous. Highly recommend if travelling to Proto, and want to be off the main stretch but still walkable.

Staff, clean, breakfast!

The breakfast was delicious, and there was a lot of different foods; eggs, fruit, fresh breads, charcuterie. etc. Really nice.

The only issue with the duplex room was finding space for our luggage, and unpacking our clothing and shoes, etc. It was beautifully decorated, but just not any space space for our things (except the bathroom had ample drawer space for all of our toiletries).

The staff were all amazing, they were very welcoming and helpful. Our family room was very comfortable, clean and quiet.

Very clever conversion of an old property near the centre of Porto. Everything was excellent- breakfast, garden, bedroom, the people - parking arrangements included. The bed was very comfortable and all the little touches made this a fabulous place to stay.

Canto de Luz was a beautiful property, was easily accessible with a key pad, storage for luggage, plenty of amenities in the room (washer/dryer, small kitchen, patio, etc), and very clean. The staff communicated everything we needed for our stay ahead of time. Breakfast was also fantastic! We loved our stay and everyone was very friendly and quick to answer our questions.

Beautiful hotel in a quiet neighborhood. The design of the facility is gorgeous but what really stands out is the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. My daughter was sick one day and they could not have been kinder. It was our favorite hotel on our trip.

It is sparkling clean and a big space. The hotel staff are very nice. Breakfast is fantastic. You also got your own Amazon music in your room. The location is perfect. It’s close to everything.

The fact we only had one day to enjoy the place...

Breakfast is plentiful and morning staff wonderful. The rooms are a good size, quiet, and comfortable. Staff helped us buy train tickets and answered our questions. They were very helpful.

We look for hotels outside the high tourist area, so this was a positive for us, but it is a trek to the river. We walked everywhere, but may be a challenge for some.

We loved our stay! The mini apartment we stayed in (Urban Garden #1) was a wonderful space and had more amenities than we had expected. We used all of them! The centrality of the location was fantastic and we appreciated that we were close to all the important sights without being in the middle of the noisiest sections. We walked everywhere easily. The staff were very accessible and helpful, our every request was cheerfully fulfilled. The shared spaces are beautiful and comfortable, the morning meal was consistently excellent. We liked the way the dining room was set up - it provided the opportunity to connect with other travelers and share sightseeing tips. I would recommend Canto de Luz to anyone!

We prefer to sleep in separate beds - one of us is a terrible snorer (I won't say who), so it was disappointing to have to share a bed. But honestly, we were very comfortable!

The room was gorgeous! The bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was amazing- so fresh and healthy. The staff was also very nice and accommodating. They helped us make dinner reservations prior to arrival and provided complimentary coffee/tea when we arrived!

Everything was great!

The property was beautifully restored with everything travelers need. We loved the layout, the kitchen area, the bathroom and the amount of natural light. The breakfasts (included) were delicious and the dining area was delightful. And, the location was great - restaurants galore and very close to everything.

Almost nothing! It would have been nice if the metal divider between our unit and the unit next to us - which shared a common courtyard - had the cut-outs a bit higher. This would have given us true privacy and the ability to keep our door/window open with confidence.

We were disappointed in two things: the room we had, an “urban retreat” though spacious feels like it is in a deep well and lacks good circulation. Secondly, we had opted for a hotel instead of an air bnb for our first trip to Porto—we thought it would be useful to have some guidance from staff as we explored the city—but there is little in concierge-like support at this establishment. The owner is very responsive via what’s app in terms of booking dinner reservations however there’s no front desk at which to stop in for general advice. Communicating via what’s app feels a little inconvenient and impersonal.

Very clean large room and bathroom was a good size. Breakfast was good. Location was just ok.

We booked almost a year in advance requesting a quiet upper floor room. We did not receive the "city view room with sofa" that was booked on Booking.com. We were given a "garden room" (with a small chair) and were told that this was an upgrade. However, the balcony was unusable due to direct sunlight and construction noise at the rear of the hotel from 7am-6:30pm. I would have preferred the quieter, street side "city view" room on the top floor. Breakfast, for us, started too late each morning at 8:30. While the bread/pastry selection changed each day, there was no other offering of a protein item except for eggs. Since one of us doesn't eat eggs, the breakfast seemed a bit incomplete. The OJ was delicious though. For such a large room and bathroom, storage was lacking. The very narrow shelving didn't allow for much storage space. We basically had to live out of our suitcases which had to be set on the floor. A luggage rack would have been appreciated.

Friendly staff offered a warm welcome. Breakfast was delicious and well served. The hotel is very well located for all sites and good restaurants but given lots of construction access was a bit difficult with taxi. This is a no frills stay, but room was large and comfortable. Bathroom could have been a bit better cleaned during our short stay, but we still would recommend.

A fabulous place to stay and enjoy Porto. We had an amazing room that was great for three people. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large and with a fantastic rain shower. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond to make our stay stress-free and enjoyable. The breakfast and afternoon Tapas were top notch!

Beautifully appointed rooms. Extremely friendly and courteous staff, who are knowledgeable about restaurants within walking distance. Loved the cocktail hour at 6:30 pm, where we also enjoyed charcuterie board. Breakfasts were fabulous. Highly recommend.

Canto de Luz is a true boutique hotel, we loved our stay, design, service and location are fantastic. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly - we will definitively be back.

Even though we drove into Porto, the location was great because we were able to gargage park up the street which was fantastic. Breakfast in the conservatory off the back looking into the gardens was an unexpected and delightful surprise. And breakfast was delicious! The staff was very friendly and professional, and made sure we were comfortable at all times. The balcony off our room had a great view of the gardens, and we loved having a glass of wine in the evening there. When we go back to Porto, we would love to stay at Canto de Luz again.

Beautifully decorated B bad B with fabulous breakfast. Our room exceeded our expectations and we could have comfortably lived there for a week or more.

In my 50+ years of travel, I have not found a wonderful place as the Canto de Luz. The entire staff is excellent and very helpful. They will assist you as need should arise. The large room and bathroom were extremely clean and sanitized. The breakfast which was served individually included breads, pastries, seasonal fruit, yorkut and eggs cooked to your preference and taste. Not to go into much detail, I had an emergency at 10 PM and within minutes staffers from the Canto de Luz and an ambulance were there to assist me and take me to the hospital located 5 minutes away. In summary, Canto de Luz is an outstanding place. Home away from home!

Location was perfect to explore the city, only a short walk down the hill to restaurants and a bit further to the city centre. Train stop only a short walk away that can connect to other lines and airport. The room we had was stunning, large and very comfortable. Huge shower and lovely Ritual products to use in the bathroom. They even went as far as putting in international plug adaptors and USB connections in the room. Breakfast every morning was wonderful, sitting in the open and bright conservatory watching the cat play outside. Lovely continental spread provided with different daily portuguese pastries, bread and jams, fruits, teas/coffees, juices, choice of cooked food too and yoghurt/muesli, setting us up for a great day of exploring. Could not fault our hosts, they made our stay magical. Oh and if you like wine, there's a serve yourself option in the hall :)

Only a minor issue with the heating/cooling; it seems to be set up on a common setup so we couldn't adjust the radiators or aircon, thankfully it wasn't too hot or cold and we could enjoy having the window open to get fresh air in (road is a little noisy but not too bad).

We had a great stay at Canto De Luz. Beautiful hotel, spacious rooms, modern facilities, stellar staff. Gaia and the other staff members were super helpful and attentive to our needs. We really loved the big room and the breakfast nook and terrace. Delicious breakfast with a broad variety of options to offer. The hotel building is amazing in its design and openness. Looking forward to staying there again

A dream accommodation. Everything was perfect (and I’m a picky customer). The room was lovely, especially the balcony. The technology in the room was perfection. The breakfast was gorgeous. The host and people who worked there were lovely, and beyond helpful. Location great-in town but away from the crowds. Our finest stay during our 2 weeks of travel in Portugal.

Very clean. Lovely touches-Ritual products in the bathrooms, Nespresso machine, international sockets. Very friendly staff, breakfast was lovely. Offered a choice and freshly made pastries and eggs how you like them. Lovely modern rooms.

We booked three rooms. One room didn’t have a tv and I needed a chair to sit on whilst I did my hair etc. We found a chair in the communal area which I was able to take to the room. Two very minor things.
