Generator Hostel, Paris

The dormitory rooms are spacious enough for a hostel and have ensuite shower and WC. Beds are comfortable. Hostel cafe/bar downstairs was a good place to meet new people and chat. The location is handy to get around with a few different metro lines and buses nearby, and some nice cafés/restaurants and bars down at the canal about 8 minutes' walk away. The view from the rooftop bar is beautiful and the atmosphere is really good in the evenings.

The shared facilities are not clean, especially the bathrooms in the café/bar downstairs, which were smelly and the floors were quite dirty. The main shared bathrooms on the floor (outside the dormitory rooms) were also messy although a little better than the toilets downstairs. The area itself while near to transport is quite a sketchy seeming area and walking back from the metro at night felt a bit unsafe. A lot of unsightly litter around and just generally the area seemed unkempt and rough. It's also quite noisy at night, although this didn't bother me it's something to keep in mind. The price is also quite steep for what you get, it ended up being almost €40 per night for a bed in an 8-person dormitory which is expensive compared to what you can get in other hostels. For this price I expected more in terms of cleanliness. The drinks and food onsite are also just okay in terms of price. Additionally the bars on site close quite early most days except for Thursday.

Getting up at the rooms was a little bit difficult because of elevator were secured but that was also something that made us feel very safe.

I don’t want to sound petty, but the bartender at this hostel was the rudest person I’ve ever encountered. I walked in planning to buy a beer, but the price was higher than I expected, so I politely declined. Instead of a normal reaction, he strictly warned me not to bring any outside drinks into the hostel — which I hadn’t even done. And just to top it off, I’m pretty sure he rolled his eyes at me. I left feeling completely disrespected. It was such a hostile, unwelcoming experience that I’d never stay at this hostel again — all because of that one interaction.

The location was close to the station. There are multiple metro stations nearby. The room was clean and up to the mark.

The staff didn't let me check-in early even though the bed was ready. They kept me waiting for 3 hours till the check in time. When I asked if I can wait in the waiting area/retaurant they said you can purchase something and sit. I ordered some food and sat there only to see that there are people sitting there without ordering anything. Professionalism is understandable but making everything into an opportunity to make us spend something is gross. The staff doesn't care about anything.

Stylish hostel. The room was big and had all the facilities.

I asked a guy at the reception how to reach the airport of Beauvais at night, and he didn't know. He suggested me to check on Google Maps. Maps, for efficency, suggested me to use night buses and bus stops I never used. The day of the departure, without much hope, I thought to ask to another receptionist. This time, the lady was informed, but it was too late to catch the last bus of the day to the airport. Anyway, I took the underground to reach the bus stop at midnight. I had to wait 3 hours in the coldness to catch the first bus of the day. The bus stop has no waiting room for travellers. It was a very bad experience. It never happened to me before to meet uninformed receptionists on information so basic.

The water heater in the bathroom wasn't working and the elevator had issues. However, a staff was available to help at certain times to help one with the elevator where required.

There is no option of early check-in even if we are ready to pay extra. Bedsheets had little stain.

Rooms are too small, bathroom uncomfortable, no chairs or desk in the room. Impossible to stay in the room unless it’s for sleeping. Breakfast was poor

I recently stayed at your hostel in Paris and wanted to share some honest feedback about my experience. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the cleanliness during my stay. From the first day until I checked out, the room was never cleaned. The trash bins in the room and toilets were full every single day, and no one seemed to take care of emptying them. There was trash and bottles everywhere, and it looked like the only thing being done was making the beds for new guests. The shower area also had black mold, which is not only unhygienic but also dangerous for people’s health. I was honestly shocked to see that, and it was clear that no proper cleaning was being done. I believe that a hostel or hotel should meet basic hygiene standards, and unfortunately, that was not the case during my stay. That said, I did appreciate the good location and the friendly staff. The beds were also okay and comfortable enough. I hope you can improve the cleanliness for future guests, as this is a very important part of a pleasant stay. Kind regards

Good location, nice view from the room, acceptable facilities.

Too expensive and didn’t feel like value for money. The room was way too open and very little privacy, of course I know it was a hostel, but I have stayed in other generator hostels and they have more privacy.

The part of the bar that looks on a garden was nice.

There was no quiet area where I could sit at a table and work or study a bit. The lounge area at the bar had loud music on always. My room was fairly dark, and had a lot of empty space. Some chairs/couch or a desk would fit there and would make it more comfortable.

Decent hostel the only problem was the shower smelled bad and had a very noticeable amount of mold on the ceiling of the shower. Needs to be dealt with. Other than that it is a good deal for Paris.

There must be more staff at the reception

The room I got had its own toilet and shower. There’s plenty of toilet paper. There’s also a sink. It’s also close to the canal so you can do a nice walk in the evening.

If there are other guests having their school trip, prepare to wait for the elevators especially if you are checking out. The building could also get super noisy.

The service was excellent . The staff at the reception and at the bar/restaurant were very professional. The buffet was definitely worth to pay. Very good food. Although, the fact of having to pat €7,50 for a towel was absolutely disappointing. ☹️👎🏾. I have been at the hotel Generator in other cities that is why I chose the branch in Paris, never was asked to pay for a towel in any of them. Also the window in the room where we were does not close properly and leaves a gap open letting a cold draft and loud noise get in to the room. I could not be bothered reporting the last bit at the moment when staying at the hotel. It was very late by the time we got back to the hotel.

Nice location, close to the metro station and few nice restaurants. Good bar and kind staff.

When I get to my bed there was someone else. They gave me another bed, same story. At the end the moved me in a female dormitory that was good. Only a couple of hairdryer for the entire place. In 5 days I never had the chance to get one. First night was a nightmare. A group of kids made a mess all night above my room.

Super friendly hostel and the rooms very very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is the best I have ever had.

The location is not far from the train station. The staff is friendly and quickly solve issues. The facilities (shower, bathroom) are clean and tidy.

When I arrived at my bed, it is kind of a mess, probably not cleaned after the previous person. The walls are not very soundproof, I can hear people from other rooms making loud noises after 10pm.

- I was checked in to a room that hadn't been cleaned yet, they gave me another room immediately - I couldn't get warm water in the shower - our room had no curtain, make sure to pack a sleeping mask if you are sensitive to the morning light - there are no bedside lamps at the beds, so when my noisy roommates came back at 3am, the big light had to be turned on - the lockers under the bed work as big, sturdy drawers, you need to pull them out almost completely to get your stuff in, which is a bit noisy - there is no common area apart from the reception loungue and a bar - the building has a somehow ugly golden facade (this is a personal preference) - I don't know why they call themselves a design hostel, whether it is due to the tiny reception area or the millennial-ish white tiles in the bathrooms, I already stayed in more vibey hostels

Beds are more or less comfortable. Everything is clean, cleaning is done every day. Rooms are isolated so you hear nothing from the corridor. A lot of space (for a hostel). You have a locker (without lock) to put medium bags inside. Shared bathrooms and toilets on each floor in case one in your room is occupied. Wi-Fi was working nicely. Cafe/restaurant. Good breakfast. Summer terrace. Ping-pong tables. They organise different events. Generally, it’s a place for youth, so I felt very safe there. Stuff is very welcoming and nice. They also answered messages on booking fast enough to communicate.

Beds have metals screens which help to save a bit of intimacy but don’t have curtains to get rid of the light or stares in shared rooms. Shower in the room was broken. Water was always cold or was switching automatically. We had something undefined instead of a soap. No place in the bathroom/toilets to place your things except for the floor. Wi-Fi was functioning well while connected but was automatically disconnecting few times a day. Everything « extra » is payed extra. No place to store the luggage (or so I was told). No kitchen / refrigerator or even teapot or a microwave. No place to eat or rest / study : there’s a room between the entrance hall and the bar/restaurant, but it’s basically OPEN air, so it’s always cold there and it has no light, so it’s dark as a deepest cave. As it’s a place for youth, there’re lots of teens and children all the time, like noisy crowds here and there. They have no security for the entrance, so anyone can get in (you have your room with a unique automatic key, if you feel that’s enough).

It’s good if you’re staying for one night. I like the fact that it’s open throughout the night. I returned from a concert that’s far away in Tremblay and I got in for 2am and I was able to go into my room and rest.

The bathroom light needs its own switch because as I was in the middle of showering, the light turned off all of a sudden.

I had a great stay at this hostel! The location is very convenient, with a metro station and a supermarket nearby. I explored the area alone at night and felt completely safe. Initially, I was assigned the top bunk, but since I had a leg issue, I asked to change, and the staff immediately accommodated my request without any problems. This hostel is a great option for saving money in Paris, where prices can be quite high. The affordable price makes it an excellent choice, and I highly recommend staying here!
