Great as always!

What not to like?

I love this hotel. It was our second time here in less than sixty days after a short stay the first week of August. I left the last time with a desire to stay just a little bit longer; it was only logical that I would pick it as a place to stay for our 20th wedding anniversary. Once again, it was a pleasure to see the familiar faces like Felix, Clara, and Virgilio. What a wonderful place to visit to be treated as a guest yet feel like family. Thank you so much for your outstanding hospitality. I hope to see you soon!

The location and the design

The staff and the property were excellent! Superb location in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo.

Love it

I loved this property! What a time travel gem in the center of Santo Domingo’s old town. The delicacy of every single detail made us feel like royalty. The welcome letter had wax seal with the original seal of the governor’s whose house used to belong to. Beautifully decorated, elegant, fine, exquisite work to keep its original design. The concierge, Felix, was a plus. Ever present and such a problem solver. Knowledgeable about the history, he gave us a tour around the premises explaining everything. What a proper and decent person! His appearance was impeccable and so were his manners. The girls by the front desk, the boys by the bar, the waitresses, everyone was friendly and eager to answer any questions. Clara was a beautiful lady, it was a delight to have her as my waitress and so was Virgilio. They feel so proud of their jobs, and that says a lot. It was more than I expected.

I liked everything!

Hotel is incredible. Its great that its historical elements were preserved. Honestly so beautiful! Staff was very friendly. Room was lovely. Loved the facilities and everything! 10/10

Breakfast on our first morning was a little cold, probably because there were less guests. On the second morning it was perfect! I am also a bit disappointed because I asked staff if there was the possibility for a historical tour and they didn’t seem to think so. When leaving I saw a sign that indicated a historical tour would have been possible.

The price was a little high otherwise I would stay here more often.. or if the breakfast was included.

There was a wedding at the property on one of the days we stayed and it was very busy and not very relaxing for us

Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando is perfectly located at the heart of La Zona Colonial, offers superb accomodations with excellent and professional customer service, fine in-house dinning and amenities that make the lodging experience truely remarkable and memorable.

Great location in colonial santo domingo

The hotel building is by far one of the best well kept buildings in the Colonial side of Santo Domingo city. The staff and amenities are grade A.

Some things are a bit outdated, like the door locks, windows and bathrooms amenities.

The atmosphere was nice, the food also was good, and the personal very kind.

I definitely would come back.

Great location. Great receptionists and bell. Nice size room. Would definitely stay again, but use other facilities than the bar.

The service in the bar was very slow and they kept forgetting our orders. Very hectic. Not enough sunbeds.

Everything is just perfect. Georgeous colonial property locared in the heart of the of city of Santo Domingo. Beautiful comfy rooms. The staff is courteous and forthcoming.

Make sure to get a quiet room not facing the port if you’re a light sleeper.

Could not get hot water for shower. It was warm but not what I'm used too having. But this is minor given everything else.

The hotel is really a gem in the busy city of the Colonial part of Santo Domingo. It extremely beautiful and comfortable.

There was a party one day, around the pool with very very loud music, really not done, and I really hope this was ones only.

Staff are super, hotel has the best original colonial features. Food is great. I always stay here when in the capital, for me it's the best hotel in Dominican Republic.

Nothing to dislike

The only reason I rated breakfast lower was due to the lack of vegan options. Otherwise, everything was great.

The place is gorgeous! The pictures don't do it justice.

WiFi was a bit... unreliable

Very stylish and comfortable specially for those on vacation.

If you are there for work I would advise to choose another place. The rooms are dark. I was lucky as the staff was great and provided additional light but it is not ideal for this purpose.

Some road works around the hotel are a bit annoying

The location and history of the hotel, well kept and nice interior design. Front desk staff and door attendants were phenomenal. Food at the restaurant was also surprisingly very good.

A bit pricy but they have a reason to upcharge given the history and location.

The staff was outstanding in assisting with any questions, recommendations or requests. We liked it so much that we re-booked on our way back home going through Santo Domingo.
