The Restaurant

If you looking for a restaurant which serves great food and offers exciting wines, specially selected by passionate wine lovers, you will love the Restaurant at Combe House. Choose from select cuts of meat and game in season, or local, freshly caught fish - all sourced from West Country suppliers and cooked by a Master Chef of Great Britain and his brigade. Add to this seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs, hand picked from Combe's kitchen garden and you have true gourmet excellence. No wonder the Restaurant's reputation for fine food and friendly, dedicated service is fast growing, making it a favourite with house guests and locals alike - including diners from Exeter and Taunton who appreciate being able to escape the city and within 15-30 minutes find themselves dining out in acres of glorious countryside.

Combe's ancient underground cellars provide perfect conditions for laying down fine wines and you'll find an interesting extensive list - all realistically priced, including one of the UK's best collections of Chablis.

In winter enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the cosy bar or sitting room, or relax in the Great Hall - in front of a blazing log fire.

In summer, the only place to be with your aperitif is al fresco - relaxing on the croquet lawn or under the majestic 300 year old Lebanese Cedar Trees watching a spectacular sunset over the Devon countryside.

The perfect setting for good food and company. This is what memories are made of.

Combe's Restaurant is open every day for Lunch and Dinner, including Sunday and Monday evenings. Visitors are always most welcome. Menus for vegetarians and those with special diets are available and there is a disabled toilet/washroom. For bookings essential call us on 01404 540 400 or email us.

When it comes to food for the Restaurant, we are ardent about sourcing the freshest and best quality local ingredients for our menus, and over the years we have sourced some wonderful produce, grown and prepared by kindred spirits who reside mainly in Devon and close to Combe House. With the exception of cheese, everything is home-made at Combe!

We are also fortunate to have our own kitchen garden which is carefully nurtured by Head Gardener, Charlie O'Reilly. We would love to produce all our vegetable requirements for the Restaurant, however it would take a small army of gardeners to do so! Instead, we concentrate on a limited range which we use regularly. In the Summer months our produce often finds itself on the plate within minutes of being pulled or cut. Dry cured bacon, pancetta and chorizos are specialities of ours. In the pantry of the Georgian Kitchen, the salting boxes are filled with sea salt, spices and delicious cuts of Gloucester Black Spot pork from Wallis's at Hemyock. We also cure and smoke our own salmon and sea trout.

You can find Combe House in the latest Hardens guide, and here what they had to say about Combe House -"Everything is set up for romance, at this magical destination - a sumptuous, family-run Elizabethan country house hotel beautifully set in 3,000 acres; the restaurant doesn't let the side down, offering loverly food and a first-class wine list"
